Sweet caramel on the nose with caramelized figs and pitted fruits. Pours very dark red with an off white head. Caramel with figs and dates upfront with slight hints of a toasted malts. Very nice.

Surprisingly tasty! Poured from a 333 ml bottle, it appears dark amber-brown with some froth which does not retain well. Aromas are very much like a Belgian ale, malt, molasses, caramel. Taste is rich, sweet and thick, again very much like a Belgian dubbel, with a medium body and rather creamy mouthfeel. While classified as a happoshu (Japanese low malt beer), the sweet potato imparts its smooth, rich character, making this a unique brew.

Bottle from Saveur Biere. Clear amber brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and light spicy. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish. 270517

A découvrir !

I really liked this despite the average low rating. Hints of sweet potato and herbs with an earthy essence. Nice color and medium weight. Easy to drink.

December 2016 - Bottle share at Leighton’s. As ’Coedo Beniaka Imperial Sweet Potato Premium Amber Lager - Super Premium Japanese Craft Beer’, 7%, brewed by Kyodo Shoji. Very dark orange, slight red hue, translucent, foamy off-white head, dotted lacing. Aroma is airy, sugary, light berry. Body is light, tingly carbonation, frothy. Taste is earthy, boiled sweets, not getting sweet potato really but it’s quite sweet, some toffee, dry finish. Interesting to try. (3.0)

Pours a clear, dark amber with a thin off white head. The aroma is a bit sweet. Its dominated by floral hops and complimented by raisin and mild caramel and nuts. The taste remains sweet with a slight bitterness. Heavy brown sugar and caramel, light floral and herbal hops, and hints of earthy malts. I do get the sweet potato in here. The aftertaste is rather weak, but it does stick with you, and it consists of brown sugar. This one is light in body, has a thin texture, and is average in carbonation. Decent I suppose, though I wouldn’t go out of my way to find this.

This was okay. Didn’t really notice the sweet potato in any meaningful way. Like a mix of a brown and an amber.

Bottle shared to Danny. It pours clear deep red - brown with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet, rich, sticky, sweet potato casserole, toffee, honeycomb and dried fruits. The taste is dry, bitter, rivita, varnish, dried fruits, brown sugar, sweet potato, toffee, alcohol hit, chewy and sticky action with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A touch sweet perhaps. Not bad.

Bottle shared in London - cheers to Daniel. Pours clear amber with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma has some berries, brown bread, cherry. Light to medium sweet flavour with toasted grains, figs, berries, a little earth. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish with bready sugars, more berries. So so overall.
