COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented for an extended period of time, this dark brew boasts a stunning contrast between the glossy black tone of the beer and the smoothness of the modest pale head. This glossy black beer is called "Shikkoku," named after the famed elegant jet-black lacquer work of Japan.

333 ml stubby bottle. Pours a dark brown-black in colour with a thin layer of tan froth, retention relatively poor, although the brew is well carbonated. Aromas are dominated by roasted malts mainly, reminds one of a porter or dry Irish stout.Taste is somewhat more complex, in addition to the roasted malts, there are hints of chocolate, mixed in with some sweetness and a creaminess from the carbonation, giving the relatively light body a much fuller mouthfeel. Nice, rich and satisfying, don;t let the lager label fool you into thinking this is a commercial knock-off!

The taste is drying, bitter, earthy, wood, leather, toasty nut, mild acidity, charred stuff, dried fruits and tar with a drying, earthy coffee finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Not so bad.

Pours black with a thin tan head. The main components of the aroma are an equal duo of chocolate and coffee, with lesser amounts of roasted malts, smoke, and bread. The taste is a little sweet with just a hint of bitterness. It focuses more on the chocolate, although the coffee is still quite noticeable. There isn’t a whole lot of smoke for a Schwarzbier. I find more licorice, raisin, and caramel. Still roasted. Moderate aftertaste of chocolate and licorice. Its medium in body, with a chewy texture, and average in carbonation. Pretty good. It could use more smoke.

Der dunkle Malzantrunk ist weniger intensiv als zuerst angenommen. Kaum röstig, milder noch herb, süffig. Nett. 10/8/9/9//9
