COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented for an extended period of time, this dark brew boasts a stunning contrast between the glossy black tone of the beer and the smoothness of the modest pale head. This glossy black beer is called "Shikkoku," named after the famed elegant jet-black lacquer work of Japan.

This beer was really really good. Pours black with a nice sized khaki head. Excellent flavors of cocoa, chocolate, coffee and caramel. Smells mostly of roasted cocoa and coffee. Slightly sweet finish and oily mouthfeel. Impressive beer.

Pours black with a thin tan head. The main components of the aroma are an equal duo of chocolate and coffee, with lesser amounts of roasted malts, smoke, and bread. The taste is a little sweet with just a hint of bitterness. It focuses more on the chocolate, although the coffee is still quite noticeable. There isnt a whole lot of smoke for a Schwarzbier. I find more licorice, raisin, and caramel. Still roasted. Moderate aftertaste of chocolate and licorice. Its medium in body, with a chewy texture, and average in carbonation. Pretty good. It could use more smoke.

Bottle at Hair of the Dog, Bangkok. Poured a clear dark brown with a bubbly round off white head. The aroma is red berry fruits, light medicinal, light roast, some light caramel malt. The flavour is light bitter, with some sweet and sour notes, with a dry, slightly vinous, fruity palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Very dark brown with a thick but restrained head. Good notes of chocolate and coffee on the nose, which carry through on to the palate, which is slightly watery. A good burst of malty caramel sweetness but no cloying at any time. Good, balanced, refreshing and flavourful.
