3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pint at Steam Plant Grill, Spokane, Wa. This was a very nice low malt Maibock. That was a pleasant surprise. I was not in the mood for an overly sweet maibock. Appearance was deep copper-brown, not much of a head. Paired well with Bison Burger on a wheat bun. Would’ve had another but wanted to try a different ale.
On tap at the brewpub in Coeur d’Alene in August 2009. Couldn’t put this review in with the rest of my backlog earlier, as this place was listed as closed for a period of time.
The pour is a moderate brown color with a few rusty streaks. There is a single-finger white head that doesn’t remain for too long but leaves a few spots of lacing behind. The nose and flavor are pretty similar with some slight fruits, a bit of bready malt, and some faint toast. The body was pretty thin, though the carbonation wasn’t too bad. Decent enough, I suppose.

5 oz sample at brewpub. Deep amber color, fizzy beige head. Aroma of toasted biscuit, some citrus. Taste is bready, burnt, fruit, caramel. Medium thick body, smooth carbonation. JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - NOV 23, 2009
Deep golden color with a small white head. Some hints of DMS and light fruit, but the pale malt still overcomes these in the aroma. Plenty of pale malt in the flavors along with a touch of noble hops. japewang (42) - USA - MAY 11, 2008

Fourth stop during the ABA Beer Tour ’07 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Though this brew was not available on tap, the brewmaster had a "stashed" growler of their maibock and allowed me to have a taste at the downtown brewpub. Pours a caramel amber brew with a creamy off-white head with terrific retention. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, flowery hops and a touch of sweet pears. Taste is smooth creamy, medium bodied with a very light carbonation. Flavor has a rich and sweet caramel malt character. Finish is slightly sweet with a good balance of bitterness and sweet malt. Reading some of the previous review, it seems that the growler aging has a very favorable effect to this seasonal brew. Braudog (6716) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - MAY 22, 2007
Draft 10 oz glass at the Steamplant - Spokane. Medium amber with a gluey head. The aroma is malty and inviting. Onto the tongue this is rich and caramelly with a fruity side and almost a pear essence. Can sense the slightly higher gravity in this meaty brew. Good. Pours a bright golden amber color, head lasted about 20 seconds. No lacing to speak of. Aromas of spice, light grains, and a touch of something fruity. Flavor is medicinal, sweet, and sort of vegatal. Not impressed with this offering. Sham (1844) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 26, 2006
Amber with a filmy head and spotty lacing. Stinky aroma of toasted malts. Slightly sour. Bitter flavors with sour malts. Some bitterness in the flavors. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - MAY 11, 2006
Tap @ SteamPlant Grill, Spokane, WA<BR>Clear gold color, small head, light lacing. Nose of light sweet candy, chalk and guava. The flavor isn’t pronounced but it has a solid body to it. I like the beers here, good base malts.
