A rich, robust American style brown ale. Brewed using roasted and chocolate malted barley. Four stars in The Great Lakes Beer Guide! Notice the malty aroma, some fruit undertones and the roasty finish. Deep and complex, this beer is great with food.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2004 Gorgeous dark ruby color when held to a light; otherwise, looks almost black. Pours a pretty thick head that fades to very thin with light lacing the whole way down the glass. Roasty and mildly choclatey aroma, light-medium body, hoppy but decently-balanced taste. Aftertaste is very bitter and hoppy, which some will love, although it is a bit much for me. Overall, a complex beer worth trying.

What a roasty nutbrown! Dark brown body (duh) - almost looks black, keeps a small ringed head all the way down along with nice lacing. Some nutty sweetness, but the major player here is roast, with a generous hoppy finish. Palate is thick and malty - this would be really good with spicy hot wings. Thanks Dogbrick!

Dark ruby color with a wonderful, thick head. Mildly roast aroma with a hint of citrus. Very low carbonation, thin body is disappointing. Roasted malts, bread flavors are weak. Leaves a long irritating bitterness that I could have done without.

Dark, dark red-brown body with a thin, tan head. Some lacing.
Big roasted malt flavor with some chocolate/coffee and alcohol.
Roasted malt flavor. Nice hop bite. Alcohol. Noble hops really come out in the long-lasting bitter aftertaste.
Medium-bodied with a crisp finish. Slightly oily mouthfeel.

This beer poured a very dark amber color and some carbonation was present. It formed a very good foamy light tan head that held pretty good and left some nice ringed lace as it slowly subsided. The aroma was of hops, malt and coffee. The flavor was of malt and burnt coffee. The finish was a touch lighter than others of this style.

Had a few bottles of this tonight. This brew pours a dark brown ruby. The large rocky beige head is fully lasting with decent lacing. The cookie like nose is caramel, roasted chocolate malt, earth, and slight resin and flowers. The bold porterish flavor is deep and complex with good balance. Low acidity is complimented by a roasted bittersweetness with a rich coffee and chocolate malt finish that is long and bitter. The outstanding palate is full, creamy, soft and smooth, with a clean finish. If I tasted this blind, I would swear it to be a porter. Very well done.
