Specially kilned Crystal malt and a generous portion of American cascade hops are used for a refreshing, spicy aroma, and a long, dry finish. Great with food, its big, bold, and bittersweet. Named best beer in Ohio and winner of a Bronze Medal in the World Beer Championships. Four Stars-Great Lakes Beer Guide.

Pours deep amber color very dark for an APA I thought. Slight head dissipates fairly quickly not much lacing. Most of the aroma is surprisingly caramel malt. A little bit of hops on the back of the aroma but really not that much... Is this really an APA? First few sips were mostly malt flavor for me then I started to notice the bitter and citrus hops on the back of the palate ever so little. This is a very unique APA and It is a little heavier than those I have tried prior to this one. A decent drink and definitely a unique one for th style.

Bottle at jeffc666s Birthday Gathering. Courtesy of ???. Copper with a small frothy white head. Nose is hoppy and floral with light maltiness. Some fruit creeping in at times. Taste is hoppy with some maltiness and light fruit. Medium body with decent carbonation. Finish is more hops and light malt. Some citrusy fruit notes as well.

Clear sparkling copper body topped by a foamy collapsing off-white head. Decent lace. The aroma is light citrus and floral hops. The flavor is more floral than citrus, light bread and caramel. Medium-light body, very lively carbonation. Too fizzy, other than that decent for what it is.

Deep copper-orange. Nose hoppy and a bit citric. Flavor is quite hoppy, mostly just bitter, maybe some orange peel. Some intriguing malts, kind of a chocolate-cocoa hint there. Extremely fizzy stuff. A decent APA.

This pours a lighter amber with a thin light yellowish head. Aroma of light pine. Couldnt get much else. Thin mouthfeel. The taste is sweet with ginger and a malty finish. Bready. Thanks milkmandan.

Clear golden amber. Caramelly sweet lightly cascadey aroma. Lightish hops are a bit lacking, but I rather like this. A bit sweetish in the finish.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2004 As the user name implies, Im quite a fan of this beer. However, it is mostly for sentimental reasons. As a student at OSU this was the local beer that nudged me away from kegs of Natti Light every weekend. Yes, it is light on the hops, but the overall package is very pleasing. Much better on tap than in the bottle.

Stange one here. The hops are so hidden - in the aroma and the taste. The appearance is dark copper. The malting is assertive and the way they are "specially kilned" makes a diference, as there is a slight nutty/roasted taste. There is a lingering sourness that is curious. Not a bad beer at all - but not at all an APA.
