2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewery. Poured a nice amber color with a small tan head. The nose was malty and sweet. I did not get the usuall caramel suspect you get in most Scottish ales. It was good but I feel it was too hoppy for this style.
On tap at brewery in Columbus (from 2011 notes).
This beer with dark, reddish amber with a head that has, at best, moderate retention.
The beer lacks the smokiness of some Scottish ales (a plus in my book). The aroma is a light malt with hints of whisky (but not due to alcohol effects). The taste is rather mild for style, a seems
a bit more refreshing than usual.
Good, but hard to recommend if you are able to pick from the other CBC brews. gws57 (1276) - Saint Charles, Illinois, USA - MAY 29, 2012
Beautiful ruby red color, malty with a note of citrus especially in the finish. Good. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, pour is dark red with thin white head, aroma brought notes of roast, some slight caramel, toffee, molasses, touch of grass. Taste is some slight mineral, nice slight caramel, toffee, finishing fairly sweet fairly sweet, some slight biscuit. Nice brew, but nothing incredible about it. cubs (10693) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Bottle @ home, courtesy of JStax. Thanks! JetsonFest II. Clear reddish brown with a cream colored head. Nutty, a touch smoky, sweet maple, caramel aroma. A bit sharply sweet, thick caramel, dull ashy smoky, sweet malty flavor. Ok. nsk79 (25) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - MAR 31, 2012
On tap at CBC, pours ruby, not much head or lacing. Almost no aroma, has some nice roasted favors but overall pretty bland and not much body. Not a CBC favorite of mine.

Had on tap at CBC. I love CBC and usually enjoy their offerings. I love Scottish ales too, but this one just didnt wow me. The pour was gorgeous. A nice clear amber color. Overwhelming aroma of hops though. Flavor was some smoke, VERY little sweetness, and a bitter finish. I dont know that I have ever had such a one sided Scottish Ale. It was very hoppy which is not something I look for in a Scottish Ale. Overall, it was okay, and drinkable, I just dont know if it was to style jcwattsrugger (12517) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - DEC 9, 2011
on tap-pours a light tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, dark fruit, peat. Taste is sweet medium malt-toffee, dark fruit-raisin, peat, secondary spice hops. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 3, 2011
draft.... this was the most underwhelming beer of the taster, a bit smokey but tasted a bit generic and metallic, bitter... not a fan rondphoto (4489) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - OCT 17, 2011
light amber, good head, light lacing. Taste of roasted caramel malt, and also some hazelnut (or maybe almond) giving it a unique flavor. Light bittering at the finish. Drinkable, but low key for a Scottish ale.
