12 oz. bottle as a trade bonus. Thanks, Pat! Pours a deep, opaque near black with a huge, frothy, rocky dark tan head that settles into a really sloppy thin cap and lace. Very earthy coffee aroma, with a robust roasted malt profile, burnt toast, dark chocolate, dead leaves, toasted sugar - but yeah, coffee is the main event here. The flavor isn’t as well executed, with some dark fruit layered in with the big coffee character, dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, and burnt toast. Really roasty finish. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a very roasty, slightly tangy mouthfeel. Just the faintest tang, though. I don’t know the age of the bottle, but I know this is going to be best fresh. On tap at Columbus Winter Beerfest. Black color. Ring of khaki head. Some loose bits of lace. Medium to bigger body. Good chewy texture. Lighter carbnation. Mild slick, light dry in the finish. Good chewiness to it. Good bigger bitter taste. Light to moderate sweet. Touch of a bite to it. Awesome, huge aroma. Mix of roast malt and big coffee. Great coffee imperial stout. On tap at World of Beer. Coal black with a thin beige head. Huge upfront flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, and biscuit. Finishes with gypsum and cream. Delicious stout. Smooth and chocolatey. bluejacket74 (1993) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - OCT 18, 2013
32 ounce growler, filled earlier today. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stays around for a while. There isn’t much of any lacing at all. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, coffee, bittersweet and milk chocolate, and some molasses. I think the taste is the same as the aroma, with there being a good balance between the sweet and roasty bitter flavors. I do think the roasty coffee flavors are stronger overall, and get stronger as the beer warms. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and coating with low/moderate carbonation. I think it’s a good stout, I’d certainly buy it again in the future. Nice to see that Columbus Brewing can make a tasty stout too, in addition to their great IPA’s!
