This might be the most unique barrel aged lager you will find. Brewed like a barley wine but fermented as a lager then aged on fresh wet Buffalo Trace barrels for 5 months.

Served at a good temperature, with a nice sized, off white head that soon settled down to a light cover and loads of lace. Color is a clear, orange mahoganey. Aroma is malty, bourbon, yeast, malt, earth. Flavor is similar to nose with addition of a bit of carbonic tang and yeast. Body is spot on; carbonation good. Finish at first was sans alcohol, but towards the bottom of the mug as it warmed up, the booziness came out. Great beer! Bravo maestro!

Bottle from Pizza Port Carlsbad: Poured with a violent eruption of bubbly foam head while a glowing vibrant tea brown hue was the liquid. My nose is easily gratified with a thick aroma of sweet sugary malts with a rich base of bourbon and wood play around in the near background. The flavor is sweet and sugary with a taste of rich caramel, old fashion syrup, and a striking resemblance to the filling in pecan pie. The bourbon barrel aging is apparent yet subdued and reminds me exactly how strong this beer actually is.

Pours a medium/dark brown with a light tan head. Complex aroma of alcohol, dried fruits and caramel malt. The flavor is boozy and sweet. Lots of the bourbon. This might need time to mellow out.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2012 Draft at the Rhino in Missoula. Hazed brown, thick tan head. Aroma of toffee, fruit, silky bourbon, molasses. Taste has lots of thick sweet molasses and roast malt flavor, with dark fruit/rum-soaked fruit sweetness also, woody/earthy bitterness, velvety bourbon feel 3.9.... Splitting a bottle now, this stuff, is awesome, lots of rich sweetness, but also some earthy bitterness, lots of wood, molasses, dark fruits, some leather, tobacco. Have to buy a bottle and attempt to age for a year.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of Bourbon, vanilla, light caramel, and slight coconut. Poured very deep amber/brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, off-white head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, Bourbon, vanilla, coconut, and slight alcohol. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt, Bourbon, vanilla, coconut finish. 10%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Oak and maple syrup aroma. Cloudy red copper, thin yellow head. Caramel flavor with nougat and walnut toward the end. Shmaltz every now and then comes up with something that really wows me.

mcberko (18068) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 23, 2011
22 oz. bottle, pours a dark amber with a small tan head. Aroma is like a sherry, with caramel, dark fruits, boozy liqueurs and some wood. Flavour is quite sweet, with sweet sherry / brandy, caramel, candied sugar and some faint wood (though the barrels are not so pronounced in this aspect). A little cloying in sweetness, but quite solid. Actually enjoyed the original Human Blockhead more.
