On tap at Urge. Dark reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Big caramel apple and sour fruit aroma and taste with a tart candy finish. kbutler1 (1381) - North Carolina, USA - OCT 29, 2010
Growler. Courtesy of aparris85! Pours avery dark non see through brown color with a slight tan head that collars around the glass. So apparently this is a mix of beers between Captain Lawrence (sour brown aged in port barrels for 2 years), Ithaca (nut brown aged in Utopias barrels), and Schmaltz (4 different years of Jewbelation and Rejewvenator). The aroma of the bat is sweet and sour cherries mixed with vanilla, oak, and grape. A lot going on in the taste, maybe too much? Initially, you get sweet and sour fruit, the cherries and grape, then a wine like oaky transition that ends with a slight lingering bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and dry. For how much is blended into this it is pretty good but I think some of the flavors get a little muddled. HonusWagner (2168) - Florida, USA - APR 4, 2011
A clustermess of a beer, but it somehow worked out to be rather good. A downright sour strong ale-like object with a good dose of caramel malt sweetness. How the hell did this come out this way? But it didn’t taste like it was unintentionally infected, so it was pretty good. egajdzis (6588) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 1, 2012
Reddish brown color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of wine, vanilla, brett, caramel, and light alcohol. Taste of red wine, vanilla, citrus, grass, toast, and light tartness in the finish. ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 24, 2012
A - Served a brown red color with just a thin ring of head, which leaves a touch of lace behind as it fades.
S - Aroma is full of sour cherries with some oak and bourbon. There is a bit of caramel malt and some nuttiness as well.
T - Starts off with some sweet and lightly sour cherries with some Bourbon and oak flavor. Through the middle, some sweet caramel and nutty flavors come through with a bit of funky yeast character and some vanilla. The finish is a mix of lingering tart cherry sourness with some oak, bourbon, and booze.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a warming and tart finish.
D - Very drinkable. Good mix of flavors that really blended together nicely with the barrel characteristics.

Draft at RnH with Andrew and Grandpop. Pours a dark brown body with no head. Aroma is sweet bourbon, oak, dark fruit, and sweet malt. Mouthfeel is thin to medium with great sweet bourbon notes of front and finishes with an interesting sour, tart twist. The geektoberfest title really through me off. deyholla (11605) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 18, 2011
Sampled from the tap at NotB. Poured a cloudy copper amber with a brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma had a red wine tart note with some sweet grain, sweet bread and a bit of earthiness and a good amount of backing barrel. Flavor started with slightly sour red fruit with a growing sweet bread and grain note that leads in to a slightly dry finish with some backing barrel. blklab2007 (2120) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 23, 2011
notb draft pour from the ithaca table listed as nycbw bbl-blend. color is brown and it has a little bit of a head. aroma has oak barrels, some wine, and a hit of bourbon. mouth feel is fairly light but it is a pleasant drinker. flavor brings out a bit more barrel, wine tannins, fairly mild acidity and tartness, and some dark fruit. interesting beer for sure. Sample at NOTB 2011. According to my notes, this was served under Ithaca Brewery.kenwall17 (232) - new york, New York, USA - SEP 29, 2011
Appearance : Dark brown.
Aroma : Quite chaotic but not bad. Notes of vanilla, raisins, other fruits. Reminded me of those pepsi candies.
Taste : Sour and tannic. Some grapes and raisins. Light roasted malts and caramel. Light brett maybe.
Overall : Nice stuff but very chaotic. Nice nose. Surprisingly well balanced. Nice example of a crazy blend that ended-up somewhat elegant.
STRONG Ale for sure. Plummy-apricot fruit is intense. I dont usually go for fruit beers, this one is ok. Perhaps it is better to not provide the ABV... I might have a heart attack if I knew what is was, my sense is that it’s in the low teens.
