COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the capital of Iowa, Des Moines constantly surprises first-time visitors with its mix of expected agrarian heritage and influences and unanticipated cosmopolitan flare. So too, with Des Moines IPA, an American take on a world beer: India Pale Ale (IPA).

Iowa’s steady, well balanced nature is reflected in this IPA with its mix of medium body, lighter color and plenty of malt flavor to balance the massive hop impact. Citrusy and piney hops from the Pacific Northwest offset the robust malt flavor of the two-row barley and medium crystal malts. Des Moines IPA proudly represents the Hawkeye State in the category of American IPA, a favorite of beer connoisseurs all across the country.

On tap while in Des Moines. A little more malty than I like my IPA’s, but it is not too bad

On tap multiple times. Deep orange tinted copper body with a white head. Rich nose of grapefruit and freshly baked bread. Hints of pine are present with some almonds. Taste of light grapefruit and malt. There is some walnut character. An herbal hint. The finish is lightly spicy. Solid.

TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - OCT 23, 2016
Draft on tap at Short’s East Side (Iowa City, IA). Pours a darker amber pour, mellow haziness. Hoppy bitter nose is earthy, floral, bit of citrusy life. Carmelized, touch sweeter, medium bodied. Firmer bitterness, even keeled sweetness. Not one of the more bright, fruity, trendy IPAs. But still pretty fresh, bitter enough, not too sweet. Solid IPA overall.
