When most people think of Iowa, they picture flowing fields of grain for miles and miles. Created by a third-generation farm boy, Farmer John’s Multi-Grain Ale is amber waves of grain in a glass. A refreshing, blonde ale, it features a base of two row American barley malt along with a large portion of wheat malt, a small dose of rye malt and un-malted oats, corn and wheat.

Lightly hopped with English East Kent Goldings hops chosen for their subtle, earthy qualities and finished with Czech Saaz hops for their sweet, floral essence to create a beer that’s light in body and color, with a velvety texture and an aroma as sweet as a freshly cut field of hay. Farmer John’s captures the endless bounty of Iowa in a easy-drinking, blonde ale.

Tap at Confluence. Murky dirty yellow pour with minor head. I can neither smell nor taste this beer. There’s almost nothing here - good or bad. It just is. Hmmm.

De l’amidon plein les dents, de la chair de citron et des céréales étoffées. Un liquide aussi bien exécuté que simple.

Shaker pint draft at the brewery tasting room in Des Moines, Iowa. The pour is a hazed yellow orange golden with little to no head. The aroma is faint, was served pretty cold. As the beer warms some, there is the corn, rye malt and a general earth hop character. The taste is the corn, rye and hop earth of the nose plus a solid dose of wheat. The palate is light bodied with active carbonation and a clean enough finish.

32oz growler from jcwatts. Poured a hazy orange/gold body with a smaller bright white foamy head. Aroma of orange peel, tea leaves, vanilla potpurri, dough and sour lemons. Body is medium to fuller with lighter carbonation and a milky mouthfeel. Flavor is odd, bad dough, wet bread, fruit that is just starting to spoil, odd but not bad odd and not good odd just odd.

on tap @ Confluence Brewing / Des Moines IA --- Clear straw color, thin head cover, light sprays of lace. Taste is wheat and malt that moves without fanfare through a mild palate and barely notable bitters to finish. This has the huge disadvantage of having a taste that actually recedes from the opening to the finish, finally leaving nothing.

wlajwl (6749) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - APR 30, 2014
Aroma is wheat, light citrus and mild/medium earthy notes. The flavor is fruit/berries, wheat, malts, light citrus and a tart finish.
