64 ounce growler thanks to John shared with a ton of people at Hunhapu, poured a dark brown almost black color with aromas of roast amd light hops. Flavors were roast, some chocolate and light hops. Black IPAs are not my style but decent overall. Thanks for the growler John. heemer77 (5358) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Growler from the brewpub. Thanks for the glass, jcwattsrugger! Perfectly black colored brew with a thin lightly orange tinted thin head. The nose is up front with a combination of dark chocolate, plums, roast and obvious grapefruit. The taste is like sweetened up iced coffee with some grapefruit hints running through the back end. There is also a little bit of prune quality. A nice sipper. This isn’t as hoppy as I expected and a little sweet overall. Subtle hopping, this one is surprisingly smooth and light in the mouth. Hand bottle thanks to jcwattsrugger: Poured a thick black with off white colored head. Aroma is hops and malt. Taste is a nice gritty hops with a nice balanced roasted malt, some sweet caramel. Finish is dry and spicy. jbruner (4734) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - FEB 25, 2013
Pours a trsnslucent brownish-black from the bottle with fluffy off-white head that dissipates to leave light lacing. Aroma is pretty much all hops, but a slight toasted chocolate malts backbone. Taste follows, with a bittersweet finish. Damn good stuff.

A pretty decent black IPA. Roasted character is pronounced, although its a bit thin in the mouthfeel. Tried at the Parkville microbrew fest in 2015. jsquire (4489) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - APR 19, 2014
Dark brown beer with a short lived tan head. Puffed wheat and caramel corn nose. Buttered toast, puffed wheat, dark caramel, and some citrus hops combine to make this an interesting beer. Hints of sweetened coffee in the finish. rondphoto (4445) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - JUN 18, 2014
on tap @ Confluence Brewing / Des moines IA --- Cloudy dark brown, good head cover, streamers of lace. Taste is solid roasted malt with caramel that drops hops into the palate; on subsequent swallows, the hops fade in and out like a distant AM radio station. A very interesting Black IPA....subtle, yet plenty of strength. Recommended. FlacoAlto (4182) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 14, 2013
A vigorous pour into my Teku glass produces a two finger thick, pale brown tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated brown color that shows a lightly hazy, purple tinged, concentrated amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of a mix of toasted dark malt and herbal / pine like hops. Ample whole grain notes, toasted brown bread, roasted citrus hop notes, light pine aromatics.pineypower (3327) - Ocean County, New Jersey, USA - JAN 27, 2013
This has a prickly carbonation and a full citrus hoppiness to it up front, while the finish focuses on toasted brown bread, and nutty dark malt. The fruit notes up front definitely have a roasted edge to them from the dark malt; tangerine, grapefruit, Curacao orange, some lychee notes, and kumquat, all with a roasted overlay to it. The bitterness has a nice bite to it, though it isn’t overly aggressive, in fact the beer is fairly smooth, which helps let the dark malt come through a bit better. The malt competes pretty well with the hop character; ample roasted nutty notes, toasted whole grain.
This is nice, I like the balance between hop and malt here, it is perhaps a touch more balanced than many an other Black IPA I have had, though it is clearly still a hop dominated beer.
Shared thanks to JCWatts. Pours out an attractive brown color with a thin white head. Aroma is of nice citrusy and fruity hops, light chocolate and some toasted grainy malts. Taste is complex, nice hop profile of citrus and light fruit grass, mild chocolate, some caramel and toasted malts all while having a decent hop punch. Solid
