Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 28, 2006
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2010 In short: A super nice Saison-like golden.
How: Bottle 33ml, consumed (probably) very fresh the day if purchase in Belgium
The look: Cloudy dark golden body topped by a large white head with low retention
In long: Nose is barnyard, dusty, musty, with citrus notes. This is a Saison alright. Taste is pleasantly dry with a strong spicy sensation. Very yeasty and the yeast has a strong barnyard dusty character the brings a sawdust sensation. Some citrus fruits, bubblegum and tropical fruits lighten up the beer. This beer feels a lot more like a Saison than Contreras own Saison (Valeir Extra). If anything this is an exemplary Saison that is not a Saison. Weird. I want more Contreras brews, especially especial.

Bottle, oct. ’05. Amber brown, quite decent white head. Aroma from dark fruits and malts. Medium body. Sweet-ish flavour with a little spicyness. Malts here too. Good.

Papsoe (25063) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 6, 2006
(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a cloudy, dark amber with a creamy, beige head. Somewhat impure malty nose. Surprisingly full and sweet body with notes of burned caramel. Lightly metallic edge. Considering the only 4.8% ABV this is quite rich and tasty. 060706

Mungo (2470) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - JUL 4, 2006
Bottle (from BItter Virtue, BB Jan 07). Fruity malty start with a smattering of hops. In the mouth a light tartness and then excessive fruity yeast which overwhelms any subtler flavours and leaves a cloying mouthfeel.

Bottled, alc. 6.5% (BB 07/2007)
My 500th Belgian rating.
Hazy orange color, big orangy head. Sticky orange fruity-rye-alcoholic aroma. Fruity, yeasty, biter flavor - maybe some orange peels found too. Woody dryness in the aftertaste. Basic Belgian ale, not a real winner.

OlivierMTL (709) - Quebec, CANADA - JAN 8, 2006

schuimkroaat (427) - Leuven, BELGIUM - NOV 6, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 4, 2006 33 cl bottle, bbe Jan 07. Deep amber, abundance of large bubbles; hefty and stable, rocky head with a good lace. Aroma: caramel, lightly fermented plums, old bread, some light woody notes and very gentle hops. Taste: malty with light caramel and a good, slightly acidic fruity (apples? oranges?) background. The long, dry aftertaste mixes sharp hop bitterness with nut oils. A very good balance. Almost greasy on the palate, slightly astringent and well carbonated.

Bottled, RBESG -05. Amber colour, off-white head. Nice candy-like, sweetish malt-juicy flavour, with notes of dark fruits.
