Clear dark brown color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy and open, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, moderate hoppy, light citrus and grapefruit. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, dark malt, grapefruit - wood. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn, and shared at the 3rd Ipswich bottle share. Pours very dark hazy brown with a big frothy off-white head, carefully avoiding the bottle sediment of which there was a lot. Aroma of chocolate and hop. Light sweetness and bitterness, nice mix. Medium body and texture is rather thin. Highly carbonation. Too fizzy. Finish is dry with a long lasting raosted bitterness. Decent potential, would like to try in cask to compare. Toasted bread and a few of their burnt edges meet molasses, raisins and hop resins in this silky Session Black IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam tops the hazy dark brown.
-The low, natural carbonation almost emulates a great cask feel.
-Berry jam also appears here and there.
-Malt flavors are as expressive, if not more expressive, than the hops in this one.
-I could see this being quite successful on cask.
4.6% ABV bottle from Vinomondo, 19 High Street, Conwy. Inky black-brown in colour that pours with a massive head of tan foam. It has a creamy chocolate and coffee flavour with slight liquorice and pine notes on the bitter finish. Very nice.

Cask (handpump) at the Sir John Oldcastle (JD Wetherspoon) on 13 April 2013. I know it’s a bit low in alcohol for a Black IPA (in US terms) but surely not a Schwartzbier. Smooth and dark. Not a huge hop presence but nicely balanced and drinkable. Tangy hops and roasty malts combined rather well with a touch of stewed coffee. Good crossover. Plenty of character given the abv. Cask Pint at Wibbas Down (JDW), Wimbledon, London in Apr 2013 during Spoons Festival - Black in colour with Reddish tinge. Malty; roasty malts, some coffee. Hoppy; some piney hop bitterness. Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 30 April 2013. Poured a dark ruby with a dense beige head. Nutty aroma with notes of cinnamon and toasted malt. Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; dark brown pour with thin tan head, roast malt and pine hop aroma, pine hop taste with a hint of citrus roast malts come through decent mouthfeel.
