Deep brown/black pour with creamy tan head and lace. Aroma of resiny hops and roastiness. Hinto chocolate and toasty. A hard bitter finish. Smooth easy carbonation. Nice offering.
On tap at Cool Springs poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, charcoal, pine and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, charcoal, pine and light grapefruit with a smooth dry bitter lingering roasty finish. On tap at Brewery. Black pour with a quickly diminishing head. Aroma includes the obvious presence of substantial amounts of hops. Floral and citrus notes mix well with the roasty toffee flavors of the malt. A nicely constructed black IPA. edgallow (4629) - nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 12, 2013
16 oz draft pours black with an off white head. Aroma of malt, citrus and pine. Taste is citrus and roasted malt.

Enjoyed this but would have a hard time having more than just one. The hops are pleasant and to the point. Good citrus and grapefruit with a bit of piney resin. My issue is the roasty malt profile is a bit overdone and is hard to get past. There’s tons of flavor here, but it is just a bit clunky. Can’t wait to see where it goes though. musinj6 (510) - Dedham, Massachusetts, USA - JUN 22, 2012
Pours a translucent black with medium head and small lacing. Very prominent roasted malt. Almost burned, but not quite. Caramel, hint of espresso. Subtle sweetness up front, but turns strongly bitter with citrus and pine very quickly. Medium body, small carbonation. Very long bitter finish. I like what they’re trying to do with this beer, but I think the roasted flavor is a bit too forward. I do like it., though Dogbrick (14326) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 29, 2012
Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a dark brownish-black color with a medium light tan head that recedes steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, hops and fruit. Medium body with flavors of toasty malt, citrus and piney hops. The finish is hoppy up front with a lingering malt aftertaste. Above average overall.
