COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Barley Wine Ale is a pursuit of this particular style in the American tradition. This hop-forward interpretation was crafted with a generous dose of Amarillo hops late in the boil. After aging in bourbon barrels for seven months, the beer was dry-hopped with Citra, resulting in a mature Barley Wine Ale with fresh character. Savor accordingly.

750mL bottle shared by Airforcehops on 5/20/17.
Cherry-peach-amber body shows great clarity and a beige head atop that is medium-sized and fairly well-retained, to-style.
Fruity esters emerge, showing a graceful age on them that cuts out any sharpness or aggressivity. Cherry, vanilla, light peach and warm caramel-toffee notes all grace the nose, as sugars intensify on the finish which is dotted by light, peppery alcohol notes that seem appropriate for the style. Bourbon isn’t overdone, showing only light toasted character with a touch of pineapple and coconut. If souring bacteria and yeast were introduced, it doesn’t show through here other than a strong fruitiness that could easily be malt and Sacch-derived.
Soft, rich, malty texture with low but fairly engaging carbonation and lightly toasted oak character. Sweet, though not cloying, with orange peel, black pepper, cherry and long vanilla notes lingering on to the finish which itself shows moderate oak and warming alcohol and further yeast-derived spice. Rich, intense, malty and sweet; yep, it’s a bourbon barrel barleywine alright. But importantly it’s quite well-done, with no syrup or booze and generally well-polished characteristics all around.

Properly cellared 750 ml bottle. 2015 vintage. Bottle 1324 of 1524. Dark murky brown color. Aroma is oak, toffee, molasses. Can find the bourbon. The flavor also has lots of oak over caramel malt and moderately strong toffee. It’s full bodied with an oak and sweet finish. All oak without much bourbon but still pretty respectable.

Bottle. It poured a hazy, red / brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of malts, caramel, coffee and some fruits. The taste was similar to the aroma with more malts, caramel, coffee, dark fruits and oak. Nice aftertaste. Decent.

Pretty good barleywine. Bourbon barrel aging lends it a vanilla, okay flavor. Nice plum and chocolate character.

Bottle 0002 of 1524. Pours a hazy copper with thin tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma is big sweet malts over hint of funk and woody must. Taste is like a nice barley wine with a touch of sweet and sour. Interesting, might develop more in the bottle, but to me is mostly barley wine right now.

Pours a brown color with off-white head. Dark fruits, oak wood, and some spice on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a tartness that is unique to this barleywine, usually they finish sweet.

Draft - Vintage 2012 - Vinous, plums, caramel and barrel notes. Tons of barrel notes, plum and dark fruit. Very little of the richness I expected.
