Coopers Sparkling Ale is brewed naturally by the centuries-old top fermentation method just as it was in the beginning by Thomas Cooper. This beer displays a solid head and a distinctive, full-bodied flavour enhanced by a soft, fruity character and the sediment which gives it a cloudy appearance.

A blond ale without foam? Is it blond or what is that colour? And what is that smell? But then again it has a good bite and a quite ok aftertaste. All in all a very drinkable beer, also outside of Australia.

Pours light hazy copper with minimal to no head. Aroma strong malt and lemon zest, quite nice. Taste is medium sweet and mild bitter, quite clean tasting. A tad watery in the mouth and noticable carbonation. Overall pretty good.

Poured from bottle into a Spieglau IPA glass, it poure a hazy light golden orange colour with weak white foam, no lace. This is a very old bottle, but the only one I have to rate. I hope to someday re-rate a fresh pint. Grainy, earthy, woodsy, apricots, black pepper, banana.Hint of dextrine malt sweetness. Minty aftertaste, with an intersting lemon zest, lemongrass essence. Medium body, intensely spritzy carbonation, drier than expected finish. Great live bottle-conditioned characteristics. Some leathery oxidation, which adds an interesting complexity, but I doubt its an intended flavour at prime condition. Good not great, but its still easy to see why this is such a popular thirst quencher in the Australian climate.

Bottle: Slightly hazy amber, with a short, light beige head. Soft fruit, bread aroma. Taste is sweet, caramel malt, yeast.... Just OK......a little doughy.

375ml bottle. Cloudy pale orange colour with a lot of yeast sediment floating around which eventually settles, small white head. Aroma is malty and citrus fruit, lemon or orange, yeast, floral. Flavour is malty, citrus fruit, floral, bittersweet but the finish is mostly bitter hops and some lemon. Well carbonated. Refreshing but not sure its one Id want regularly.

From a bottle. A well made decent beer, nothing flash, just a solid drink. Nice malt aroma, smooth and mild bitter finish.

Fresh and mild. A perfect thirst quencher with a round and balanced, still refreshing, malty body.

375 ml bottle bought at Market Place by Jasons in K11, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Cloudy hazy straw golden honey colour with a cloud of misty yeast particles; Half-finger head with white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with active small carbonation; Sweet and fairly pungent aroma of thick Ale malt, with sick floral, syrup, strong citrus, lemon and grass; Mid to light sweet taste of fair ale malt, with light floral, carbo, Very light caramel, molasses notes, light spices, dry bread, yeast, strong lemon, strong bitter hops and quite strong grass; Mid to light body. Quite slick palate; Mouth feel is fair Ale maltyness in a very slick background. Citrusy lemon dominates with light floral and moderate sweetness and carbo. Dry bready and a bit spicy round with strong lemon rounding. Not bad Hoppiness is pungent floral, strong citrus, lemon and grass in nose; Light floral, carbo, spices, strong lemon strong grass in taste; Bitterness is close to strong for a lasting, mid-astringent sweet-bitter finish; Slightly dry after taste. Citrusy and quite bitter to mouth.

Comments: This is a significant step-up from the thin and tasteless Original Pale Ale of the same brand, with thicker maltyness and much stronger lemony bitter hops. It still feels cheap, though, with that dirty yeasty looks, sick floral smell, bland hop taste and pretty strong sweetness with lesser hop balance. A cheap thrill, so dont take this one seriously.
