12.7 ounce bottle from Market Street Wine Shop Downtown Charlottesville, VA. Pours a muddled brown color with very large unappealing floaties. Medium head, poor head retention and poor lacing. Aroma of banana, toffee and grain. Taste is very grainy, with some fruit and toffee notes. Medium bodied.

2007 bottle at GBBF 2008. Cloudy amber with a small white head. Dried fruit aroma of priunes and plums. Sweet and full bodied fruity flavour with a quite oxidized impression.

2008 bottle. Amber color. Vinous, slightly dusty aroma with notes of toffee and cognac. Vinous, slightly perfumed flavor, slightly dusty with cognac notes. Slightly alcoholic. Malty and matured (perhaps a bit too matured) but the balance could be better.

Botlle 4-Oct/2002. Pours hazy and muddy copper, straw and orange with a small frothy off-white head that qucikly becomes an edgy and rocky film. Caramel malt (straw, hay) toffee and grape, plum hop with cellared oak notes and yeast (dough). Flavor is warm caramel malt buttery and fizzy with a lightly hopped finish and oak notes. Medium bodied fizzy and warming palate.

Clear brownish red with a small creamy off-white head. Nice duration for such a small head. Aroma is sweet, lots of toffee, caramel, light liqourice with some viniousness. Rather highly carbonated, but still rather oily. Flavour is high on sweetish caramel, light dark fruits with a fine hoppy bitterness. Long, lingering and slightly alcoholic aftertaste.

Dogbrick (12252) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 2, 2008
Pours a deep brown color with golden and reddish hues. Thin off-white head that dissipates to a film quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Light nuts and malt in the nose with hints of peppery alcohol. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated with flavors of nuts, figs and malt. Touches of spicy hops and alcohol as well. The finish is chewy and sweet with a light astringency in the background. Above average overall.

Bottle shared with Deanso. Amber brown pour, small white head with no retention. Aroma is floral with slight malt. Flavor has same aspects with some caramel and a bitter sweet aftertaste.

2008 vintage. 12.7 oz bottle with twist off :-( cap. Pours with a nice foamy off white head that leaves very nice lacing and has nice retention. The beer is a murky brownish/red orange color. Smell is reminiscent of English barleywine mixed with a belgian dark ale, the deep perfumey scent of malts mixed with the hops that once were is very noticeable. Pears, bananas, dark fruits also stand out along with caramel from the malt. It is fruity and bready, with a hint of bitterness. The finish is quite dry and bitter. The alcohol melds with the fruitiness well. This is a damn fine brew, it still is a bit hot even 2 years old, it could get better with age, though it has the twist off which is more prone to oxygenation.
