Huge maltiness and a warming alcohol bite, all underneath the Ringwood yeast fruitiness. A ditto version of Geary's Hampshire Ale, but a little tamer. Nice sipping brew. Drinkingdan (375) - East Norriton, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 22, 2002
Nice copper color. Has a nice bite to it, it's not a big bite but there is one there. A very nice Strong Ale. xmandax (130) - Astoria, New York, USA - JAN 13, 2003
rich, complex flavor in a nice deep amber pour. there's enough of a hop on this to make it worthwhile to drink, and it masks the 7.7 abv very well. Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 7, 2003
Deep brownish red body topped by a medium thick quickly disappearing head that leaves good lace behind. Sweet vanilla malt aroma with a touch of hops and alcohol. Slightly sweet malt flavor with bitter background and a strong bitter finish. Medium to full bodied and relatively dry. Hopistotle420 (1178) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 26, 2003
Cherry, fruity, yeast nose. Ruby amber hue. Sticky off-white head. Very sweet, smooth and light texture/body. Start is all malt, flows very smooth over palate. Yeast provides nice fruitiness. Very drinkable, alcohol is not evident at all. Finishes with a light bitter lingering finish.

Aroma is sweet and buttery full of ringwood yeast character. Dark amber apperance. Sweet malty taste with some hops for balance, slight smoke flavor and a fruity finish with pear and apples coming through. goz (358) - Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 7, 2003
Pours clear ruby red, medium tan head that slightly lasts, good lacing, tons of bubbles in the body. Aroma is buttery, fruity, and some caramel. Flavor is slightly fruity, buttery, light caramel. Body is medium, fairly dry. The second bottle I had of this was much warmer than the first, and the flavors and drinkability were much better when warmer (about 60 vs 45 or so for the first bottle). Pours a dark amber - not unlike a bourbon. Decent off-white head with good lacing. Fruity aroma with a slight alcohol undertone. Slightly acidic flavor with some good malty notes. Has some of the same qualities that English bitters have - Fuggles is apparent. The aftertaste lingers a bit too long - alcohol hidden fairly well. Dark cranberry color with brown and orange hues. Smallish cream ring for a head. Smells of wheat, banana, grapes. Taste is sweet malt, banana, grapes, pit fruits, dry hops and caramel. Pretty good ale, but nothing extraordinary here. spkldhenlvr24 (517) - Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA - AUG 17, 2004
Good Strong ale. Dark amber/light brown, thin head. Suprising hoppy, alcohol aroma. Very good piney bitter taste. Also some smokey, roasted flavors.
