4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
It is a good tasting stout. Very smooth not as bitter or as heavy as a typical stout.
The body has a deep dark brown, nearly black color. It is very dark and nearly opaque. On top sits a small one finger thick foam head. It is tan in color and quickly settles down to a thin wispy layer that just covers the top. Lacing is minimal and slippery. There is a firm aroma of sweet roasted/toasted malts with notes of fresh brewed coffee and just a hint of dark chocolate. There is a solid sweet roasted malty character with a good balance of toasted bready notes and dark roasted bitter coffee notes. As the beer warms hints of dark chocolate and mild spicy hops sneaks in there here and there as well as some mellow almost brandy like alcohol notes. The palate has a solid medium feel with mellow balanced carbonation.

Head is short and fizzy, no strength in it at all, like soda pop. Cap falls into a beer that looks nearly still with no lacing or head except the constant carbonation rising to the surface.
Aroma is weak and watery roast with a lot of lactose.
Flavors have a lot of lactose also, i can’t believe this is a regular beer for this brewery, it is such an obvious flaw. Watery coffee.
Thin mouthfeel with a lot of carbonation.
They need to stop making this, it’s embarrassing. FROTHINGSLOSH (7796) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 7, 2012
My wife brought this one back from a trip to Rochester. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large sudsy brown head that faded quickly and left almost no lacing. The aroma was enticing with a blend of cream, vanilla and toasty malts. The flavor disappointed by being notably dry, bitter and roasty with notes of wood and smoke. Medium finish and body. I had high hopes given the nose but the flavor was just not my style at all. AirForceHops (7233) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - AUG 17, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 18, 2011 Tap @ the Brewery, Milford, NY. Served in taster glass. Also had in a 12 oz bottle from the brewery. Nice full, tan head that dies to a ¼ ring. Nose of roasted malt, not much else. But the taste is where this brew shines. The head brewer told me they use 50 lbs. of oatmeal flakes. And man you can tell! There is a strong roasted oat character with a good balance of chocolate and roasted bitter coffee notes. It has a good amount of body due to the oatmeal. As the brew warms it leaves a nice bitter lingering coffee finish. I think there is great flavor and I could drink lots of this. The pitcher retires the batters in order 1-2-3. Solid for the style.

I love this beer. It’s smokey, a bit sweet, a very full bodied.
Unfortunately, you can only get in NY as far as I know.

Bottle on 01/04/2011 courtesy of MaltDawg. Dark black body with a medium frothy tan head. Roast, chocolate and slight burnt malt aroma. Dry chocolate, roast and slight burnt malt flavor. Medium light body with moderate carbonation, slightly watery.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a foamy brown head that fades quickly. Aroma is dominated by roasted malts, coffee, and baker’s chocolate. Mouthfeel is definitely more thin than I was expected. Smooth and dry with a light chocolate bitterness on the finish. Not a terrible stout, but a bit underwhelming. jmulv (336) - New York, New York, USA - MAY 16, 2011
Had at Tap NY. I wouldn’t say this stout is truly a strike out, more like a lazy fly ball to right. It’s very sweet with chocolate malts shining through. The mouthfeel is very thin for a stout. Not the best, but it’s not awful by any means. deyholla (11600) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 8, 2011
Bottle. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has some sweet chocolate and bitter chocolate notes as well as a relatively strong roasted malt note. Flavor starts a bit thin with a hint of chocolate and quickly becomes full of roasted malts. pete4999 (1445) - Buffalo, New York, USA - NOV 6, 2010
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with an offwhite head. Smells of roast malts and some coffee, but also some offputting scent to it. Taste is similar....something weird about it. Some coffee, but also something that I can’t put my finger on. Not that great.
