I thought this would be quite similar to last year’s with the exception of the spices, nut it is a very different animal indeed - no nearly as hearty - almost watery in the mouth (apparently an amber ale base this year) - clear orange - nose is largely of he lavender, which is a surprise considering the other adjuncts are generally much stronger in aroma - a bit of the peppermint peaks through - flavor is semi tart - some vanilla character - very mellow peppermint through the middle - finish of light lavender and a touch of bitterness - decent, but a bit simple - I like the old recipe much better. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JAN 11, 2013
Pour on tap at the brewery, slightly hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of an herbal note with some of the lavender, hops in there, some orange peel give a hop like aroma as well with a slight minty note as well. Taste is a mix of biscuit, bread, some orange peel, touch of lemon, lavender, finishing with a slight mint, touch of sweetness. Interesting for sure.
