Dark brown color, served with no head. Aroma of dark malts, cocoa powder, impression of chemicals (phenol). Lean body, despite the high initial gravity; the flavor focuses too much in dark caramel, with a clear presence of heavily roasted nuts in the final; light residual sweetness. Rather simple in its conception.
It’s a decent beer, but I regret getting a large glass of it.
Draught at Stone Brewing Company, Escondido. Pitch black beer with a nice beige head. Roasted chocolate flavor, caramel, licorice, cocoa, some sweet fruits. Malty caramel flavor, fruity, grapes, licorice, pears, mango, licorice, chocolate notes. mcberko (18583) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 22, 2015
On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose brings out rich notes of chocolate upfront, followed by roast and some dry cocoa powder. Flavour is similar, bringing out a rich balanced palate of cocoa powder and roasted malt, with a touch of coffee and even smaller touch of vanilla. Robust and impeccably balanced big beer. Excellent.

On tap @ Uncle Henry’s Deli. Dark brown in color with a tan head. Aromas of burnt sugar, licorice, and roasted malt. Some coffee, raisin, and fig jam. Fairly sweet chocolate notes, too. Flavor is on the sweet side. Lots of chocolate, sugar, and fruit. Some light bitter roast and coffee character. A touch of cocoa powder, notes of licorice, and ash. Kind of syrupy on the palate. Sampled @ RBBSG III. Dark brown color, a nice red glare coming through, average to medium sized beige head. Smell and taste malts, lightly roasty, bitter, lightly dry, a hint of coffee. Medium body and carbonation. Quite nice. Ferris (16302) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 20, 2015
Draft - Dark chocolate and roast. Jet deep brown with a light brown head. Dark roast and chocolate with a syrupy chocolate bitterness. Roasty and nice, but none of the dark fruit I hoped for. bhensonb (15621) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 3, 2014
Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a slight, transient tan head. Aroma of coffee and dark fruits. Full bodied. Flavor is dark treacle with hints of coffee. There’s some spice. Dark fruits. Maybe more coffee. It’s sweet, but the finish seems towards dry and astringent. I’m liking this a lot.
