CBCs overriding mission is to brew beers that are 100% true to our San Diego roots. Our spring seasonal, an unfiltered Belgian-style IPA, does so in spades thanks to aggressive West Coast hopping, while paying tasteful homage to Old World flavors and brewing traditions.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Hazy light orange with a thick frothy head that leaves sheets of lace. Interesting aroma, very complex, with some brothy qualities competing with a bit of citrus fruit and lots of spice. The palate delivers more fruit than the nose (kumquat), and oddly, cauliflower (a first ever for me), with a heap of spicy yeast. Finish is soundly bitter. Unusual, but in a welcome way for me.

February 2nd, 2014 - Coronados fusion style Hoppy Daze is an engaging brew, coming out of their "Crown Series" which in my limited experience goes above and beyond the regular line-up to fold in more dynamic and interesting flavors. To the eye, Hoppy Daze has all the markings of an IPA, a chilled frosty gold color clouding the glass, and less than a finger of styrofoam colored head atop. Banana and cream comprise the aroma, pushing less clove than Id expect from the Belgian yeast treatment, and switching in more white grape juice, though just a touch as an accent. The palate, given the style, is thick and heavy, with an appreciable dose of alcohol. Its good company for the occasion of a Super Bowl Halftime Show, bold enough to cut through lackluster live performances and keep my attention. As I veer away from the television I catch more banana and graham cracker sweetness, and even a dash of cookie spiciness. Likely a product of the yeast, but distinct from the clove, its proportional to the other flavors and delicious. Better this than football, I think, and so I retreat to a quieter corner to enjoy the rest of this without the plastic clacking of footballs and stressed cartilage.

650 ml. Clear golden-amber with a sticky meringue of foam. Nose is honey with the beeswax, resin, toast and a touch of grapefruit zest. Flavors of lemon honey, cardboard, toast and mint. Medium body is smooth with light-medium carbonation and a nice balance.

Bomber poured to cup. Pale yellow, minimal activity. Sappy pine, citrus hops. Light and clean grapefruit, not pithy, decent aftertaste.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle. Clear, golden straw color with a yellowish-white head and very good lacing. Aroma of flower nectar, grapefruit, pine, tropical fruit, yeast and pale malt. Taste of grapefruit, tropical fruit, sweet malt, pine and coriander. Full/medium body and medium/low carbonization with a smooth mouthfeel. This beer has a strong Belgian tripel character, yet with heavy West Coast-style hopping. It is surprisingly sweet, but with ample hop bittering for balance. It's unusual, but quite good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Big hop single IPA. Earthy and maple like hop aroma, excellent and different at same time. Malt is slightly sweet but hops balance it out very nicely. Great carbonation to bring out hop aroma.

I am not sure why this scored out so low. The aroma was strong, fresh, and floral. Color was wonderfully light Amber. Taste was fruity, yet a bit bitter. Loved this beer and very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a lighter golden brown. earth, funky smell with piney under notes. Taste is not hoppy enough to compliment the underlying fruit. Overall ok beer, but have come to expect better from coronado
