It doesnt take a genius to kno w quality West Coast IPAs require a stupid amount of hops. A generous blend of Nugget hops and the four CsCascade, Centennial, Chinook and Columbusbrings forth a myriad of tropical fruit flavors and a brawny, persistent bitterness that makes for a highly intelligent brew.

Hazy amber pour with a small tan head. Aroma pine and citrus, then some bitter hops. Smooth but a little thick, so you know it?s a serious brew. But it is still smooth and dangerously drinkable.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Deep, pleasant citrusy nose. Hazy orange/straw, thick-bubbled head. Solid but restrained bitterness in initial / great tang in mid, and then it goes to balance / good caramel finally comes out in the finish / endless hop tracks on the tongue. Medium-heavy body. Full and satisfying. Very nice example of this West Coast style.

Pleasant aroma when first poured but the essence fades quickly Citrusy, and floral aromas. Dark gold color, poured relatively clear, good carbonation, white Lacy head. Big bold hop flavor at first taste, followed by mellow malts, and a lingering dry bitterness in the back. Full mouth feel. Good Big IPA...but I would definitely classify it as a double not an imperial! ;)

Hazy orange-amber with a frothy off-white head. Light lacing. Aroma of pale malts, light citrus, bread, and caramel. Tastes like raisins and pale malts with moderate bitterness. Medium bodied and dry. Not bad.

otakuden (1783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 29, 2013
Appearance: Deep ruby and garnet under a pithy copper-hued blanket that sticks vigorously to the sides of my glass, eventually fading into a tight bubbly blanket.
Nose: Rich, robust, sticky, and parching. Pine sap and hop resins, grapefruit oils and orange oils. Crunchy caramelization and pine trees in the back. Mint leaf. Freshly mown green grass sticky and damp with dew.
Palate: Bracing! Tastebud tingling! Pine needles, Christmas trees, white and yellow grapefruit peel oozing oils and sticky essence. Sour grapefruit and key lime candies. Sticky hop resins and pine oils. Finish is pretty fast, lingering with just a hint of mint in my breath.
Final Thoughts: Deliciously unapologetic and oozing IBUs and hops in all their bitter deliciousness. A fantastic ode to the west coast from Coronado Brewing.
