4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
I actually thought this was a much better beer than the islander IPA, not sure why this scored so much lower. Pours nice dark red with a white head. Aromas of citrus Cascade hops, crystal malt and roast. Flavor is full and complex with hints of roast and chocolate coming through at the end. Well hopped all the way though with a long clinging finish. One of the best examples of a West Coast American Amber I have ever tasted. Worth the $11.99/6pack price. In stock now at Hops & Vines in Asheville.

While not as hoppy as some of the Amber Ales on the current market, Coronado’s Mermaid’s Red comes across pretty clearly as a West Coast ale. The amber malt has a lot of chocolate and caramel character, but there’s plenty of Cascadian bitterness and citrusy flavor that comes through. While the hops mostly have an earthy floral note, there’s a lovely orange marmalade taste that sticks to the roof of your mouth. Given where it’s from, there are more dynamic ales that come from the SD area. However, it’s hard to think of too many more that are this approachable yet true to their setting.

Una amber ale que me recuerda a estilos escoceses, caramelo, maltas tostadas con final semiamargo. Normal

650 ml bottle poured at home. Pours reddish (touch on the orange side) with no head. Smells like caramel or toffee and malt. Tastes strongly of malt with a caramel finish. The malt is almost overpowering, which doesn't make this my favourite beer to drink.
