Black with nice light brown head. Strong roasted malts, licorice, black coffee, soft mineral notes, burn toast, toffee, ash. Medium sweet and bitter with the bitterness lasting quite long in a very roasted way. Over medium bodied with oily feel and low carbonation. Strong on the roasted notes.

jgb9348 (6186) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAY 23, 2016
2014 Bottle: Deep, pitch black coloured body with a thinnish, oily deep brown head, only about a half centimetre thick. Aroma of super roasted malts, licorice, tobacco, leather, earth, mushrooms and heaps of both - bourbon and vanilla. Medium to Full-bodied; Lighter in body than I expected, but much sweeter than I expected as well with bunches of lactose and vanilla coming through, all with a good deal of mushrooms, oak, dry yeast and a touch of oats as well. Aftertaste shows some nice rounded flavours with a little sweetness, a touch of the grain, some bitterness from the roast and a subdued licorice and spice character. Overall, a nice beer throughout with a good character that shows some light aging very well and after a further five years, it should round out very nicely, but the body might be gone altogether, I’m afraid. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 31-January-2015 for US$8,99 sampled at home in Washington on perhaps one of the last chilly evenings of the season on 22-May-2016. 2014 Bottle (Bottling Date Unknown) on Screenprint // Purchased: 31-January-2015 // Sampled: 22-May-2016.

Lukaduke (3206) - Gray, Maine, USA - MAY 13, 2016
Picked up on a trip through MA a month or so ago. Pours a viscous burnt umber color with two fingers of thick dark kahki foam. Nose has some dark fruit, roasted cocoa, brownie batter, and a hint of astringent sharpie marker that ever so slightly mingles into the mix. Palate follows but its a bit thinner on the mouth than expected. Nice bourbon nuances but again a little touch of weirdness in the dark fruit astringency area. Brownie batter, vanilla, roasted grain, lingering bitterness with a touch of alcohol heat.

Pours black with light brown head. A chocolate, coffee, and roast malt aroma. A strong taste of chocolate, roasted malts, and a bit smokey. A lingering sweet chocolate and smoky aftertaste.

fiulijn (20372) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 19, 2016
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver; 9.3% ABV, 414ml
Black color with medium sized tan head. Roasted malt is the dominant note, but it’s not ashy; notes of dark salty chocolate, roasted nuts and very light liquorice; good body strength, with limited residual sweetness. Pleasant alcohol warmth in the final.
Straight forward Imperial Stout, no gimmicks, just simple pleasure; excellent.

On tap at Brunzies (12/15/15). Black opaque with tan creamy lacing head. Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Great chocolate nose with hint of molasses, smoke, coffee. Nice sweet flavors with cocoa, coffee, smoke, molasses, caramel, a little oak and vanilla. Mild bitter hops, carbonic acidity. Smooth sweet finish and alcohol warming after.

Sampled at Brew Woo ’16. Poured black with a mocha colored head. Modest lace. Aroma is light chocolate, coffee with cream and a touch of smoke. Semi sweet flavor of cocoa, dampened down with mild molasses and earthy hops. Full in the mouth. Nice!
