ABV: 9.3%. Clear dark black color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, chocolate, coffee, dark malt, roasted, sweet malt. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, chocolate, dark malt, roasted, wood, sweet malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20160123]

Black color with medium sized tan head. Roasted malt is the dominant note, but it’s not ashy; notes of dark salty chocolate, roasted nuts and very light liquorice; good body strength, with limited residual sweetness. Pleasant alcohol warmth in the final.
Straight forward Imperial Stout, no gimmicks, just simple pleasure; excellent.

Keg at the Coronado taproom, Coronado Island, 13/11/14. Black with a decent tan covering. Nose is big roast, liqourice, charr, spice, toffee. Taste comprises rich malt, chocolate, vanilla, roasty tones, spice. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light booze strokes. Decent enough impy, pretty seimple, easy drinker.

Draught at Brewers Beer Bar, Göteborg. Opaque black beer with a small but lasting beige/brownish head. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma, licorice, caramel, earthy, dark chocolate, tar notes, some dark bread and biscuits. Hoppy roasted coffee flavor, dark chocolate, tar, grass, floral, some warming alcohol. Quite nice, full bodied and with a pleasant roasted coffee and chocolate finish.

On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out a good mix of roasted malts, oats and a little cocoa. Flavour is rich and robust, with tons of roasted malt, oats and chocolate in decent harmony. This is anything but tame and one-dimensional, but it is also lacking a bit in drinkability with some abrasiveness. All in all, a fairly enjoyable slow sipper of an impie.
