On the palate this silky smooth ale is predominantly malty, with smoky, spicy and citrusy notes, and a long, lingering finish that is lightly tart and malty.

Editor’s note: Sold as both Corsendonk Christmas Ale and as King’s Blue in Norway.

A decent beer, but maybe not worth $3.17. A nice mouthfeel, good lacing around the edges.

puzzl (3258) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 23, 2005
Nice, black pour with a small, fizzy head. Aroma really shines, like a combination between a tripel and a hefe, with strong spicing: sweet malts, brown sugar, banana, cinnamon, nutmeg. Flavor doesn’t hold over as well, tasting a bit creamy and malty, though spicing is not apparent. Taste lingers in the mouth though somewhat unpleasantly.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2006 Very good, the bottle is nice, dark and good foam, very cloudy and very sweet.

Sampled at a 2005 Christmas and Winter beer tasting at Delilah’s, Chicago, IL. 2004 vintage. Hazy amber ale having small diminishing off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied that starts with spicy, sweet malt flavor and finishes with light malt aftertaste. Good drinkable winter brew.

This was just alright. Nothing too impressive. Murky poo water pour that looks appealing. Rocky head that dissipates. Aromas are strange. Greyish cradboard and citrus. Lots of citrus. Eww...weird. Flavors are simliar to this, with a pronounced bitter cardboard that isn’t all that nice. i’ve had better.

25-cl. bottle, courtesy of my Milwaukee YEHa! Secret Santa (thanks Nathan?) Translucent cherry brass in color with a creamy, sudsy, clinging tan head. Delectable aroma comprised of cloves, lemon zest, bananas, brown sugar, dates, nutmeg, anise, cinnamon and mulled apple cider. Prunes, dates and sugar plums dance for the flavor. Slight aluminum steel chord at the back belt of the tongue. Allspice, anise and straw doormats further the flavor, but the doormat is weathered, as if it’s been brought in after a particularly harsh autumn season and a few too many weeks trailing into winter. Heavily effervescent with airy quaffs filling up my belly, so it’s a touch too spritsy. Suggestions of rye, raisins and dried prunes manifest in the finish. After all these years, I think I’m finally beginning to understand what "figgy pudding" is. Well, at least Corsendonk’s interpretation of the yuletide classic.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a great head. Strong aroma of cinnamon and anis, also in the taste, a very spicy christmas ale.

Pours a slightly hazy ruby amber with a large off white foamy head that laced nicely. Aroma I’m picking up ginberbread, yeast, orange and dark fruits. The flavor is more of a roasty malt, with some dark fruits and yeast also picking up some metallic in the taste. Nice palate...can’t pick up much of a 8.5% at all.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2012 Great dark color with greeeeat head. Cinnamon, orange licorice taste - but its too orange for my taste. (re-rated 2012) Now - no orange, but more traditionally raisin flavor.
