The finish is malty and nutty with a gentle sweet finish. Finalist in the 2000 & 2005 Champion Beer of Britain Competition, 2001 Good Beer Guide "Beer of the Year" and Champion Beer 1994 Maltings Beer Festival.

Cask at Putney JDW. Free due to being the last of the cask. Hazy orange brown, still, very big foamy tan head endures. Aroma is musty, damp, socks. Body is medium, low carbonation, smooth. Taste is biscuity malts, soft and watery, light bitterness. Some vegetal notes bringing this down, but the condition is clearly not perfect (hence the free beer). Will have to revisit.

Das Bier ist fast klare, kastanienbraun und es hat eine geringe aber feine beige Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr hopfig, nussig, fruchtig, Karamell. Geschmack leicht röstmalzig, nussig, Karamell, gering hopfig bitter, ok!

Bottle from Tesco in Ryde shared with McTapps. Medium dark brown and clear. Upfront some chocolate, bit of coffee, some roasted malt and toffee. In the aftertase a fine touch of nuts and malt. Fine one.

Bottle from Tesco in Ryde. Pours out in a deep amber-brown colour with low head and medium body. Aroma of roasted barley and malt. Taste of malt, cake, bread, dark berries, torf, straw and flowers. Dry finish with coffee hints. Nice one but nothing special.

Bottle from Tesco, Mirfield. Dark amber with a carbonation and a small frothy head. Has a lovely smooth feeling in the palate and a fairly decent malt aroma and taste and a light sweetness.

A tribute beer to owls, slightly thin but pleasant caramel and other tastes. Slightly sweet and bitter finish.

500ml bottle from a garage in deepest Worcestershire. A deep amber brown beer with a whitish head. Malty aroma, and a taste of orange fruit and malt.

Cask in the Kings Head W2. Brand new barrel, dunno if it was perfectly conditioned. Brownish beer, thick white head. Prickly hop bitterness, surprised a bit. Malts all tasted a bit muddled to me. A bit disappointing, I’ve enjoyed Cotleigh beers in the past.
