Bottled (at Chriso, bottle from GBBF).
Dark ruby red color, small creamy beige head. Grassy and a bit dry woody aroma. Grassy, slightly toasted. Aftertaste has licorice. A bit boring porter. DruncanVeasey (8226) - NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - JUN 18, 2009
BC from Duncan Murray Wines, Market Harborough, 5%. Mahogany with ruby glints and a fine diminishing beige collar. Sweet plummy aroma with strawberry jam, liquorice and apple yeastiness pushing an 8. Tangy but burnt with bramble hints giving way to roasted barley, burnt toast and general charred nuttiness. Some yeast extract, alcohol and charcoal presence nodding towards a considerably stronger beer. Carbonised pistachio and cocoa linger. Still looking for a bad beer from Cotleigh, and this isn’t it. Alphadelic (2237) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 28, 2009
Tiny specks of reddened light sparkle through this dark beer. A thick and creamy looking head sits atop. Strangely fresh aromas, quite cider-like. A bit sour and boozy on the nose really. The sour edge is still there in the mouth but nice roasted malts and chocolate calm it right down. Quite fruity, in a deep way and christmas-y warm to boot. Hints of liquorice in the aftertaste. Great texture to it too, airy and creamy. A bit of an odd porter. ThomasE (5174) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 11, 2009
Deep reddish colour with a beige head. Malty, fruity and vague roasted aroma and flavor with a light caramel sweet note. berkshirejohn (6501) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 24, 2008
[500ml bottle from Majestic, bottle conditioned.] Black with a chestnut hue and a ring of tan head; aromas of smoke, licorice and chocolate; creamy in the mouth, exploding with chewy malts and sweet milk chocolate flavours; then a dry chocolate dominated finish. Very drinkable, but somewhat lacking in complexity.

The color is black, transparent with a red hue and it has a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice and caramel. The flavour has a light sweetness and a light, roasted bitterness and notes of licorice, caramel, light chocolate and hints of nuts in the dry finish. It is very harmonic and has a lot of flavour, it would be very easy to drink a lot of this - yummi!!! turbothy (1141) - Bonn, GERMANY - OCT 7, 2008
Sampled @ European Beer Festival, Valby. An average porter, but not a bad beer as such. joergen (28148) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - SEP 25, 2008
Bottle at EBF 2008.
Cloudy red brown coloured with a small off white head.
Light roasted aroma of caramel, coffee and liquorice.
Light roasted flavour of caramel, liquorice and coffee.
Roasted finish. DownsouthGav (601) - Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 15, 2008
Bottle Sainsburys. Nose of roasted malts, hops, spicy dried fruits and cream. Pours a dark brown beer with a small reducing head. Taste is pleasant if a little simple for a porter. Plenty of roastedness but the taste seems to stop half way through the enjoyment. Not bad but I’ve had much better. thebeertourist (5189) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 7, 2007
Bottle, 5% alcohol, not 4.4%. Pours dark brown with a huge beige head. Berries, hint of chocolate and smoke aromas. Dark fruit flavours blend well with smoked malts to give quite a dry finish. Body could be fuller. A good effort.
