Produced since 1979, Tawny Bitter has become one of the most popular beers in the West Country. Brewed using Devon pale and crystal malted barley and Herefordshire hops, Tawny is a distinctive well balanced best bitter with a subtle hop palate which blends with the sweetness of the malt. Tawny has been a finalist in the Champion Beer of Britain Competition, and is a two-time Good Beer Guide "Beer of the Year".

Amber colour with decent white head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Surprsingly hoppy, especially in the finish. Notes of grass and caramel. Had it too long ago to really remember the finer points. One of my favourite bitters though. Also, owls are cool.

Fra fat på The Old Bell, Fleet Str., London, mars-17: klar rødlig kobber ("tawny") med kort skum. Malt, karamell, ristet loff, milde urter. Lav karbonering gjør at den glir raskt ned. Mild bitterhet med noe urter, krydder og jordtoner.

Cask @ The Globe, London - UK. Color: clear amber golden blond beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: sweet malt taste and bitter balance. Taste: light body with sweet malt and bitter. Nothing else... standard beer. Aftertaste: ...

On cask at the Haymarket Bar. Appearance - amber or tawny as expected. Nice tight lacy head. Nose - malt bag, dank cellar. Corked wine note. Taste - more of that corked wine note. Damp floorboards. Palate - light to medium bodied with that unpleasant dank oxidised taste through to the finish. Overall - oh dear. Is this what the brewer was hoping for.

Cask Pint at Wibbas Down (JDW), Wimbledon, London in Aug 2010 - Dark Amber in colour. Malty; roasty malts, caramel, hint of chocolate. Hoppy; grassy hops. Malty with a slight bitter hop/fruit edge. OK. Sessionable. (2010-08)

Bottled 500ml (AbM)
Clear copper color, small off-white head. Aroma has odd cellary hops with hints of crystal malts. Light-bodied. Flavor is also on heavy earthy hoppy side with back crystal malts although not really sweet. 3.8% is not a problem. Odd.

Cask in a pub in Frome. Amber with a fading off white head. Mild aroma of toast and citrus. The taste is similar. Toasty malt with a hint of peppery spice and citrus. Dull.

Fullpintofbeer (497) - Bristol, Somerset, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2016
Bottle from Gardiner Haskings, Bristol. Appearance: small head, which disappears quickly, amber gold colour, very little hazy, fair lacing. Aroma: malts - grain, coffee, also a bit of apple. Taste: sweet with bitter aftertaste. Palate: light to medium bodied, medium bitter finish, flat. Overall: Not bad, although could have been more bitter.

undercurrent25 (2246) - Barnton, Cheshire, ENGLAND - MAR 17, 2016
Pours a brown colour. Taste is medium bitter with a sweet aftertaste. Quite an average bitter
