Smooth, full bodied and light chestnut on colour. The Duchess is a refreshing ale, complimented by a powerful presence of fresh hop aromas.

Cask conditioned handpump Old Bank Northampton 24/06/13. An amber brown coloured beer with a whitish head. Sweet and malty. Also a bit phenolic around the edges. Below par even for Cottage.

Cask conditioned at The Lamb & Flag, Oxford. Copper with white head. Sweet, sweaty, slightly fusty malts with a vegetable hint. There is an earthy hop note, some caramel. Pretty standard for Cottage.

A somewhat cloudy, amber colored beer with a firm layer of foam. It has a deep aroma of grain. It taste a bit watery by the lack of carbon, but the main taste is like licorice. The aftertaste is bitter and stays for a while, but doesn’t fill the entire mouth.

Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, fruity, caramel, warm fruit, light hops. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20130814]

Cask @ Rivermill Tavern, Eaton Socon. Hazy golden brown, a tiny bit of cream-coloured head. Aroma of wet wood, hints of cinnamon and smoke. Taste is a harsh sour/sweet that fades to a reasonably nice bitterish short finish. A real twiggy brown bitter, and not a great one at that. I don’t really care for this at all.

ManVsBeer (10953) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 17, 2014
Cask @ The Works, Sowerby Bridge. Rusty copper-amber with a thick creamy head. A bitter with very tasty light chocolate notes in both aroma and taste.

berkshirejohn (6655) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - MAR 27, 2014
Cask at the Bird in Hand, Knowl Hill, Reading. An appealing bright reddish copper pour with no head; spicy aroma; fruity taste with some earthy spices - almost Christmasy; and a dry caramel finish.

Leighton (22307) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 3, 2014
Cask at the Leinster Arms - Bayswater, London. Pours clear gold-brown with a light foam head. It’s a tasty bitter with toasty bread malt base, mild leafy bitterness, hints of orange, earth. Light bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Sweet finish with more toast, citrus, light bitter grain husks and dried leaves. Decent offering.
