Cask at White Cross inn beer festival. Dark rusty ale with a thick white top. Smells of biscuits and plum tart with some burnt sugar. Taste is nice warm biscuity malt with some plum and currants. Finish surprisingly dry and fruity. FatPhil (16388) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 23, 2013

Really dark red, small loose head. Lovely grainy aroma - classic cottage. Soft mellow grains in the taste, and tons of husky grains in the finish. Nice one.

Amber, clear, thin white head, good lacing
Aroma of soft malts, not much else
Taste of caramel malts, soft cereals, not much else, bit simple
Palate - thinnish body, soft spices. Finish as main flavour, bit dry.
Overall - OK. Nothing special to me.
1. Cask Handpump at the Station Buffet, Stalybridge 16/11/2002
Mid brown colour with some sour fruit. Slightly bitter full malt finish.
2. Cask Handpump at the Vernon Arms, Liverpool 04/12/2003
Dark to mid brown slightly rich on the palate. Some sour fruit flavour and dryness and a smooth roast finish. chriso (7569) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 26, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2004 Yet another beer from Cottage at the Head of Steam (handpump). Deep ruby colour. As expected, quite malty, with berry fruits, raisins and prunes. Toffee too. However, all this could be better integrated. Not too sweet. Not that strong either, but it is certainly aiming at the winter warmer style and succeeds quite well.
