Draught at brewery during anniversary party. Pitch black. Taste of bourbon and vanilla. Medium body. Very tasty. Big stout.
Draft pour at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a deep, just about opaque dark brown with a small khaki head. This was served too cold, obviously, because that’s what Ei8ht Ball does, but even after I let it warm for a while I just didn’t get much out of it. There’s some oak, a bit of bourbon, molasses, dark and milk chocolate, mellow roast, and toasted sugar that suggests marshmallow - but man, this is the most restrained 12.5% ABV barrel-aged imperial stout I’ve ever had. Totally jammed up. Medium-full bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Pretty good overall. Just no pop to it whatsoever. Odd. Tap sample. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average tan head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy roast coffee, chocolate, wood and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid smooth brew. alexsdad06 (10784) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - NOV 21, 2014
Draft at Ei8ht Ball. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small, creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have more sweet malts than roast, bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit, wood, some booze, dark chocolate, some mild + bitterness, a bit thin for my liking, ok barrel aged imperial stout. Deep brown colored encircled by a ring of head. Hefty dose of bourbon, vanilla and maple, some coconut flares in the aroma. The body is soaked with bourbon that is accompanied by an easy roastiness. Dollops of vanilla and coconut round out the medley. Powerful stuff. Europa326 (13) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAY 22, 2014
I’ve had glasses of bourbon that tasted less like bourbon than this beer. Pours dark with a thin brown head, has the unmistakable aroma of chocolate and bourbon, and mostly tastes like the latter. This beer isn’t for everyone, if you aren’t a bourbon LOVER then you may be overwhelmed. Had this one at Country Boy and although I quite liked it, I don’t mind the low availability. It might be a while before I’m in the mood to try it again.

Draft. Bourbon and chocolate fudge aroma. Black with moderate tan head. Sweet creamy chocolate malt, bourbon, and mildly bitter herbal flavor. Solid. Nero55 (944) - Nevada, USA - APR 5, 2014
Draft. Black with small brown head. Strong aroma of bourbon, caramel, and vanilla. Medium/heavy body with slight oily mouthfeel, chocolate, and bourbon. The bourbon overwhelms the other flavors. chinchill (5311) - South Carolina, USA - APR 3, 2014
Rx stout [Barrel aged RIS 12.5%] on tap at Country Boy
BBL dominates the aroma and, to a lesser extent, the flavor,
Medium+ body with low carbonation. Smooth.
Lastng aftertaste of sweet, high quality bourbon.
Black’ opaque; hardly any head or lacing.
O: with the bourbon dominance, this is most recommended for bourbon lovers. ABV mostly hidden; pretty much only the warming gives it away. bubblehouse (1556) - louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAR 29, 2014
Really nice beer. Not to overpowering fot the high abv. The bourbon flavoring could be a little more pronounced but good flavor over all. DrSilverworm (9672) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 18, 2014
~4oz taster on tap at the brewery. Pretty much pitch black color, some bubbles on the side of the glass. Thin light brown head. Leaves good bits of lace. Big bourbon character in the nose. A lot of tannin the flavor, and big woody notes. Alcohol is not subtle nor that well blended in this beer. A lot of good bitterness the aroma, though, and some light to moderate sweet. Bigger body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Moderate to bigger roast character, good coffee, some cola, dark chocolate. Light vanilla, a lot of tannin and barrel character. If this had a thicker mouthfeel this might be able to pull all the big taste and flavor off, but it’s relatively thin for the style. Lightly spicy bite at the end. Decent bourbon barrel aged stout. Nice to try, a snifter would be difficult to get through (didn’t get half-way through my taster).
