UPDATED: FEB 5, 2016 Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Aged for around 2 years: Inky black in colour with a rapidly disappearing than head. It has chocolate, liquorice and roasted coffee flavours followed by oak, leather, dark chocolate and warming vanilla on the finish. Superb!

aroma the real standout - sweetened chocolate, one of my favorite aromas ever. the rest is fairly typical for the style. 2013 vintage

Draft @ Sunset Grill & Tap. Snifter shows a pitch black color with lasting full, foamy head. Aroma is deep dark fruit, leather, earthy charred malts and hints of chocolate.

Flavor is just as rich as the nose, all the same elements... start with sweet, juicy dark fruit, dark tones of chocolate, shoe leather with an earthy deep roasted grain finish. Very mild alcohol note but still very light for the gravity, pretty smooth. Body is on the light side of full, could use just a bit more. The dry roast, earth and dark fruit play real well together. I enjoyed this a lot.

From a bottle to a glass. Pours a dark brown. Taste of chocolate, malt and espresso. Decent English stout.

Bottle from the Villa Market Ambassador, Bangkok. Poured a murky dark brown with a frothy tan head and a little broken lace. The aroma is strong liqourice, molasses and roasted malt. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich, chewy, malt, liqourice bitter, chocolate, coffee, light boozy alcohol, light spice palate and a long bitter finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Served at room temperature which is the way it should be. Took a short while to get into this, but eventually I appreciated the smooth malt, alcoholic bitterness of this beer. I probably need a second bottle to rate it properly :-)

From the 275 ml. bottle no. 046168 of 210,000. Deep jet black pour under a modest tan head that dissipates to a ring. As it pours is becomes increasingly milky. Penetrating aroma of dark burnt malts, espresso, meaty fruits, and mild bitterness. Full body. Up front the taste brings out those dark, coffee-like malts, yeast, pear, and a probing bitter bite the ends dryly. Some boozy notes but not off putting.

Bottle.
Appearance: Black body with a short and dense brown head.
Aroma: The aroma has a sour tinge to it, red wine vinegar esque, with hints of powdered chocolate, espresso beans and some fruity esters. Taste: The flavor is rather big with a very mild sourish vinegar and a bigger espresso flavor accompanied by a mild mocha underlying base. The back-end gets a hint of smoke. The finish lingers semi-dry of espresso beans and a hint of slightly tart raspberry.
Palate: Full-bodied with very mild carbonation.
Overall: This is intriguing, but at the same time off-putting sort of. The sour tinges are odd, but the malt base has great flavor. I’d try this again.

On tap at Houghs. Pours a dark brown win a light brown head. Not your typical inky black pour. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, light though. Taste is sweet and the mouth feel is medium and not thick. More easy drinking than your typical RIS.

Mörk mörk och tung känsla. Stor varm mälta. Nikotin och piptobak. Rostade toner men med sötma och behaglig syra.
