Bottle from the Guildford Arms.
Appearance - when it settles a lovely coffee like beer. Opaque black with a crema head.
Nose - it’s that imperial note of prunes in alcohol or Black Forest Gateau.
Taste - boozy fruit cake plus chocolate. Tar and liquorice.
Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy yet drying texture and a well balanced finished.
Overall - yep that’s imperial porter by numbers.

Thx! 275 ml. bottle sampled. 2013 Vintage, should be about 12 months old now I think. The original is a long time want of mine but I doubt that I will ever get to try that one so very exited about this getting to try this one. Pours black, head is mainly only mocha bubbles. Smells of cold chocolate & coffee, sweet, pralines, has a sweeter milk chocolate feel to it with a faint herbal note, distinctly unique & off the style, very interesting. Sweetly herbal upfront, sweetened cold coffee, milk chocolate, mellow, basically no roast, cane & brown sugar, light dark fruits. Feel is a mix of coffee & syrup but far less thick than that sounds, lighter than you would expect a RIS to be these days. There are definitely better RIS around these days but this one did taste distinctly unique, very enjoyable, not sure how prolonged aging would benefit this one. I wouldn’t mind having this one again in the future.

The smell is straight booze, it overpowers the chocolate, the coffee beans, it’s a rich sweet boozy smell. Dark as night appearance, the taste is sweet, smokey, not much chocolate or bitterness at first but then that bitter taste lingers on the palate.

Bottle shared thanks to 77ships. Pours dark with light brown foam. Aroma alcohol, chocolate. Taste light alcohol, intense chocolate with soft chocolate aftertaste. Really nice.

Bottle from 99 Bottles (Federal Way, WA). Big dark chocolate, cherries, ash, and some coffee in the nose. Pitch black, thin tan head. Deep rich chocolate initial / sweet dark fruitiness in mid, and definite alcohol warmth / smooth chocolate finish, with some tongue-coating light bitterness. Thick, medium heavy. Smooth creamy stuff. Alc level is apparent and the body is a bit lighter than many modern-style imp stouts. Very nice palate cycle of flavors.

Superb example of the style. Full bodied and perfectly balanced. You wouldn’t know it was as strong as it is...until it catches up with you!

Pours a jet black with a small off-white head. Aroma is malts and sweet fruit. Flavor has a strong dose of sweet fruit mixed with roasted malts. There is also a touch of coffee and chocolate, and the smokiness helps balance these flavors out. This has a nice full body a goes down smooth. It is one of the best beers I have had. Everything about it is just pure joy - from the rich aroma to the complex and well-balanced flavors. I will have to get some more bottles to age.

275ml dark bottle from Tesco. Four for £5 deal. Un-fucking-believable. The best beer in the world at a knock down price. I got a bunch of these. Some I have kept and drunk, others I gave away as Christmas presents. And what better present to give someone, eh? One of the best beers in the world. Possibly the best.

BOSSbrewer (2705) - Arkansas, USA - FEB 22, 2014
Pours a very dark brown with two fingers of tan head. Aroma has dark fruits and slight roast. More fruit though. Flavor reverses that and is more roasty than I expected. Medium to full bodied and finishes drier than I expected. Very nice beer.
