WOW!!! this beer is exactly what it states on the bottle " Brewed to perfection". I’m swirling it around in a snifter and it develops a light coffee and cream rapidly dissolving head .It has a very pleasant aroma of Toffee and coffee with cocoa very well balanced and easy drinking. At a 10.0 in ABV you couldn’t even tell , very enjoyable to drink . This beer will age nicely, if you could wait 13 years. Yep, bottle no 038602 out of 210,000 , you have to try this one. Enjoy!

2012 Vintage and served in snifter: pours inky black with a quickly fading tan head and spotty lace, some oily rears. The aroma has notes of Turkish pipe tobacco, roasted and charred malts, some toffee and espresso, moderate plum and raisin esters. The taste is heavy roast, coffee, mild dark fruits and some bruising alcohol. Seems that the marzipan, oxidation, and marmalade elements I love in these beers would be welcomed here to add depth and character as for now this is actually quite simple and not all the complex. The mouth feel is also a tad off, thinner than I remembered the older vintages and not as slick either. While not a bad brew it does disappoint and I truly question if aging beyond perhaps a year or so would actually help this much more unlike the older Courage RIS which developed for years to decades in the bottle... Well I will grab only one a throw it is the cellar to find out.

275ml bottle (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Real Ale Festival 2014)
Black, lovely tight tan head. Yeasty, liquoricey. Very rich, full palate, burnt and sticky or oily. Might benefit from a little ageing to mellow it. Best thing is the finish. Marmitey yeastiness is the main thrust. Decent sipper though.

2013 bottle. Pours a blackish brown with little to no head. Deep aromatics here. The lead is present, also darker fruits like plum and raisin. Some molasses. Taste is brown sugar, fig. Some earthy tones from a roasted malt. Well balanced. Not as sweet as expected and not as deep a flavor as I'd like. Still enjoyable.

27,5 cl bottle @ Gallows Bird ⅩⅦ Real Ale Festival, BBE 02.09.2026
Aroma has herbal tones, some salty licorice and cocoa-like sweetness. Flavour has salty licorice, sweet cocoa and some herbal tones. Too salty but not bad still.

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours a black with with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has smooth and creamy dark grains with a hint of roast and bitter chocolate. Flavor is full of smooth dark grains with a growing bitter chocolate and a bit of roast.

wnoble (1251) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JAN 21, 2014
Pours black. Nose is sharp roasted acrid malts, fruity, and a touch rubbery. Flavor is roast, chocolate, acrid malts, off musty dusty flavors, rubbery fresh tires. Medium body and pretty darn unpleasant.
