275ml bottle from Tesco. Black with a tan head. Bitter dark chocolate aroma. Mocha soy sauce, burnt treacle and smoky tar flavour. Not an easy drink, but worthwhile.

Flavors of cherry, dark chocolate and a healthy dose of brown sugar. As it warms, raisins, plums, alcohol and black licorice come out. Velvety feel and smooth carbonation.

Had a couple times now. Black pour, surprisingly. Big roasted cocoa aroma. Taste is cocoa powder, roasted malt, milk chocolate, char, coffee ground, black liquorice. Full body. Really, you had it and you loved it and wrote a 9 paragraph essay about it.

Bottle from Tesco - 2013 Vintage; BBE Sept 2026; Drank Dec 2013 - Pitch Black in colour. Very malty; rich, roasty malts, espresso coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, caramel, smoke. Quite salty and spicy. Fruity; dried fruits, raisins, pear overtones. Hoppy; resiny hops. Alcohol warming but not overpowering. Roast malty fruity and very dry throughout; initially sweet but increasingly bitter into the finish. Really enjoyed this. Terrific Impy Stout!

Pitch black with half a finger of tan head. Very rich chocolate malt and roasted aroma, leading to sticky espresso notes and toasted earthy spices. Good medium carbonation for the style and a body leaning on the heavier side. Solid layers of chocolate, smoke and oily coffee, followed by a fairly noticeable alcohol warmth. Just prior to the finish a faint but notable sweet fruitiness helps to try and balance the richness of the aforementioned flavors.

275ml bottle from Tesco, courtesy of Mark Allender on the 1st January 2014. Pours oily black with a thin dark tan head. Strong aroma of black coffee and soy sauce. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malt complex gives strong rich flavours of black coffee, burnt treacle, liquorice and bitter dark chocolate. There is a faint suggestion of spicy hop resins hidden in the short bitter aftertaste but this fades fast as malt powers through into the finish. Strong, dry notes of liquorice, soy sauce, toasted almonds and ground coffee beans are full on in the mouth at the end. This was a decent Imperial Stout and a great find by MA as the local Tesco stock rapidly ran out.

leebotton (406) - Bristol, Somerset, ENGLAND - JAN 4, 2014
Lovely peppery almost sickly sweet around. Dark chocolatey malts with hint of vanilla. Very dark brown. Surprisingly light head. Full brown malty nutty flavor with thick mouthfeel. The strength of the alcohol is visible but goes so well the the nutty flavours and texture. Fantastic effort from courage.

YUM! This is dense black in colour with minimal head. Smell: initially what hits me is Marmite! This is not a bad thing at all, instantly followed up with dark chocolate, coffee and malty barley. Taste is sweet initially before the toasted malts come through and coffee with dark (dark) chocolate, along with some malted dried fruits. Although the smell of Marmite hit my nostrils and is noticable in the taste it certainly isn’t prevalent. Heavy and oily feel in the mouth with light carbonation. An absolutely fantastic heavy stout which is perfect for winter evening drinking. I will definitely buy again and I intend to keep one back for a few years and see how this alters the taste.

Bottle. 2013 vintage. Pitch black pour with a finger of head. Young beer, thus still a hard dark espresso roast. A lot of mineral, acidic bitter chocolate, roasted nuts. Smooth, medium body with silky carbonation. Very nice. Would love to have this in 2-3 years
