11/5/2013. From bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Aromas of sweet roasted malt, caramel, licorice and spice. Smoky flavors with lots of malt, chocolate. Finishes bitter. Excellent stout. Hanoi (981) - Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - NOV 4, 2013
UPDATED: SEP 23, 2017 2012: Nose is sweet smoke, treacle, caramel, cherry, figs, plum, very inviting. Taste is smoke, leading to treacle, figs, plum, sugar, pears and coffee. It’s got a thick cream like mouthfeel. Very enjoyable I’d like to try a bottle which has been aged.
2013 Bottle drunk 2017. Nose is treacle, caramel, licorice, cherry, wood. Taste is strong soy, licorice, salt, treacle, brown sugar, coffee, pear drops, strong wood note with a tobacco in the very dry finish. I was right to want to age some. It has lost the sweetness which was in the bottle I tried in 2016/ Bahumat (179) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 3, 2013
Wow! This is a big beer, well deserving of the Imperial title. Big chocolate and malt roast aromas, beautiful black pour with a thin, lingering tan head. Taste is intensely roasted malt but not at all burnt; with smokey chocolate and lingering medium coffee notes. The palate is perhaps the only letdown of the beer; while silky-smooth and wonderful on the tongue and teeth, the lack of any apparent carbonation except for long-lingering fizz drags this score down.
Overall? An unstoppable stout, definitely due to be a favourite for those who enjoy their stouts heavily roasted and sweet. Definitely well worth a 4+ rating. Radek Kliber (7501) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - OCT 28, 2013

Aroma medium intense. Semi- dry malty with very slight smoke hint on caramel base. Hinted alcohol at end.
Top: medium sized , off-white.
Base: hazy garnet.
Palate : medium full bodied. easy going for size. Lighter carbonation with average plus finish.
Taste: complex malty blend accented by plums , biscuit. Drying feel of alcohol. Still overall quiet mild.
Other notes refined feel.
Several bottles/glasses at the Amsterdam/Young and Wells Brewers dinner (a million thanks to Iain for the invite). Deep dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. The nose is awesome. Loads of dark plum, cherry and some heavy charry roastiness. Lightly boozy with intensely chewy malt along with a touch of raisin and some ashy notes. Intense and chewy with a lot of lingering sweetness. Absolutely delicious.

2013-10-19. Black body with a quick tan head. 3+ Aroma of dark malt, lightly alcoholic with a sort of a green hop accent and a weird mix of something I can’t place. 7+ Flavour is a touch odd as well, sweet dark malt base, light roast and an odd not quite peppery undertone to it that eventually turns to a chocolatey cocoa quality. Average plus bodied palate, low carbonation. Bit disappointing given its reputation and my expectations but still decent. I look forward to trying it again in a bottle sometime. Pours syrupy thick black, like coffee. Aromas of dark chocolate, espresso. Thick on palate with a light dose of syrup. Candied and roast malt, sweet and bitter finish. Great mix of stuff. Some booze as well, but well-disguised. Candied apple as well. Cask Days 2013. lukin (672) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 20, 2013
cask. Deep black, dark brown foamy head. Espresso, chocolate, sour berries? Very interesting. Lubiere (14262) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 19, 2013
A deep dark stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, smooth sweet fruity chocolate malt with light bourbon notes, and light cork. In mouth, a superb sweet fruity chocolate malt with light licorice, treacle, alcohol warmth and iodine, quite well done. Cask Days 2013. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 16, 2013
