I can see why Catherine the Great liked this so much, though I don’t understand her horse fetish. Black with some off white head, though fades quickly, nice lacing. Great aroma of molasses, dried fruit, malts, licorice, cherries, hops. Taste is velvety chocolate and dried fruit. Overall, a solid Imperial stout.

Black color with pale brown foam. Menthol, blackcurrant and licorice most prominent in nose. Really nice. Very balanced flavor. Soft, delicious and elegant. Dark chocolate fudge up front, with blackcurrant and licorice after followed up by a warming alcohol feel without being fiery. Caramel is sensed after. Body is pretty big but elegant. Really good!

Bottle: pours dark black with a nice sized creamy light tan head. Aromas are nutty, toast, some light earthiness, woody vanilla. It tastes super smooth... Lightly sweet, the alcohol is hidden very well. It’s thick and heavy in the mouth, but drinks very easily. Nice stuff!

Pours black with a large head. Roasted aroma with notes of toffee, biscuits and licorice, Thick mouth feel. Very roasted flavour with notes of anise seeds, coffee and salty licorice. Long, roasted, bitter and warming finish. Damn! I should’ve bought more bottles of this!

2012 version. Pours an opaque black with a big brown head that lasts a while & leaves good lacing. Aroma of black licorice, dark chocolate, roasted malt & a bit boozy. Taste is dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee and a bery rich malt profile. Has a nice slow and stead alcohol warming as you sip on it which goes really nice with the thick creamy body. Nice RIS but i think im gonna get another bottle and let it age for a bit.

Dark brown/black color; Medium to heavy creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, & some coffee; Flavor of roasted sweet malt, caramel, coffee/espresso, dark bittersweet chocolate, and some dark fruit notes; Nicely balanced; The alcohol is fairly well hidden; Pretty good.

stefannilssons (1578) - SWEDEN - JAN 1, 2013
