Black pour with no head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, dark fruit, and chocolate. Complex flavor with roasted malt, espresso, licorice, and fruit at the back end. Slight alcohol warmth noted. Very nice beer!

Shared 9.3 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of dark malt, alcohol and chocolate. Taste is largely dark malt and alcohol with chocolate and coffee notes. Sweet, alcoholic finish. Not my thing.

Beautiful black color. Nice boozy aroma, had almost a wine port aroma. Taste is boozy but still lots of quality imperial malts and deep fruits. Mouth is sweet, bitter, and sticks to the tongue. Very full. 10% abv is not overly obvious, but clear. Bottle

Bottle (systemet, some years ago..) #153628. Black. Dark rich malty, slight peppery, soft old woody nose. Feels a bit murky, oxidized, but not really bad still. Med full bodied, smooth, silky, kinda easy to drink. Some old cola in flavour, roasty smooth. Not as intense as more modern- style risses, but real smooth easy, like spiced with old malty wood.

Aroma: very rich and malty with red wine and oak notes; Appearance: pitch black with white head that disappears; Taste: like a straight oak barrel; a little flavor on the edges but mainly lots of woodiness; Palate: heavy body with medium finish; Overall: way too oaky. Will not get again.

This was a pair of bottles (2012 and 2013) that came in a box with a glass. First the 2012 vintage.. Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Poured black with a tan head and good lacing. Nose is raisins, vanilla, soy, and chocolate. Body is between medium and full and there is a little alcohol in the mouth feel adding a little "bite". The flavor is rich and complex. I get tobacco, raisins, licorice, dark ripe fruit, chocolate, coffee, burnt malts. and some vanilla. Finished with some bitterness. Darn good. So off we go to the 2013 vintage. This was not quite as good as the 2012 vintage. We kind of find the vanila and tobacco disappearing. A little bit more spicy with pepper. Bit thinner. But the biggest difference is that the 2013 vintage has a lot more milk chocolate malts and the finish is more licorice and chocolate than the 2012 edition. But still pretty good. Great pair of beers.

Two versions from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. First is the 2012. Almost black with just a little amber. Aroma of soy and vanilla beans. A little chocolate and raisins, too. Big raisin flavor to begin. A little tobacco in the aftertaste. Burnt brown sugar and then a little grapefruit. Molasses, black licorice, The 2013 vintage has no vanilla or tobacco. But it does have some kind of pepper. Plus there is big milk chocolate and then some dark chocolate. A little bitterness, too. These two years were quite different. I preferred the vanilla in the 12 but with warming the 13 improved with that milk chocolate.

Rating #2152 - 2015.11.05 - Sampled at Willow Park Beer Bash - Big bubbly black pour with a tan head that erupts from an aggressive pour. Aroma is heavy roast malt, caramel, mild vanilla. Taste is roast malt espressoey bitterness, medium-heavy alcohol character, but well tempered with the luxurious toffee sweetness. Impressive.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2016 Bottle 275ml (2013) - cellared for 3 years. Served at cellar temperature. Pours extremely dark brown (virtually black). Head is small, tanned, and is mostly lasting. Aroma is rich and malty; toasted white bread, burnt chocolate, brownies, prunes, dried currants, burnt brown sugar, soft liquorice, treacle, and leather. Flavour is smooth and complex with a light-to-medium roasted/earthy hop bitterness; roasted barley, salted liquorice, dark raisin chocolate, prunes (light), strong black coffee, soil, charcoal/smoke and notes of burlap in the finish. Full bodied with very soft carbonation, an oily texture and an extremely long, warming, progressive finish. A VERY big, yet somehow refined Imperial Stout.
