Mmmmm, can’t you just taste the warm goodness of an oatmeal raisin cookie? How about the liquid equivalent? Aged in Stranahan Whiskey barrels for 12 months with caramelized raisins, Stephanie’s Oatmeal Raisin Cookie is perfect on a cold winter’s day.

Thin pour, opaque look with tan bubbly head. Fades fast though, almost one year of age on this one. Aroma is light vanilla whiskey with the raisins coming through in the middle of the aroma. Light bourbon flavor, thin and crisp palate. Had one of these last year and was disappointed. The year age has not done much to make it any better but it is more balanced now.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks YK23 & eyes_wide_shut. Pours brown to black with a beige head, aroma of toffee, brandy, vanilla, wood and sweetness, flavor of wood, toffee, brandy, whiskey, chocolate chips, coconut and alcohol, medium bodied

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks YK23 & eyes_wide_shut. 2011 bottling and a tasteless label. Black with tan ring. Cookies, slightly smoky, sweet cherry aroma. A little dry, bitter then sweet, port undertones. A little inky, too. Full body, smooth, heavy, and hardly any carbonation.

tomer (3845) - Rishon Le Zion, ISRAEL - AUG 23, 2013
At a tasting, thanks YK23 & eyes_wide_shut, almost no head, opaque very dark brown colour, strong and dominant aroma of bourbon, wood and vanila with just a hint of cherry liquor, sam e traits in flavour with some raisins added, quite strong sourness, heavy sweet aftertaste. Too one dimensional and not easy to drink.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks YK23 & eyes_wide_shut. 2011 bottling. Black with a foamy beige to ligh brown head. Aroma is cookies-ish, with bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, some dark fruits, some alcohol and light infected notes. Alcoholic flavor with lots of whiskey, cookies, vanilla, a bit of chocolate and fruitiness. Pretty hard to drink, bourbon is overpowering.

Pour out of bottle is dark brown almost black, no light coming through. Off white slightly tan head. Aroma has notes of raisin, rum soaked green raisin, nice rum cake, finishes with caramel and toffee, some slight hints of roast. Taste is a nice mix of raisin, dark fruit, some whiskey notes ans slight booze, hints of vanilla, touch of caramel, finishing fairly bitter and slightly harsh.

Pours a rich dark brown with a nice coffee colored head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma of sweet raisons and malts. Flavor starts out a bit sour, works its way to sweetness, and then goes back to sour again in the aftertaste. Has a relatively strong flavor of bourbon and malts. Very complex and a bit confusing. Very flavorful beer, but I can’t tell if I enjoy the flavor or not. It is interesting no doubt. The more I drink the more the bourbon comes through. If you like beers with big, interesting flavors, this is definitely worth a try.

Bottle… Pours black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The nose offers vanilla, cinnamon and roasted malts. Medium to full-bodied with modest carbonation. The flavor is certainly cookie-like, but mainly acrid, acidic and deeply roasted. Finishes tangy, singed and a hint dry. The Stranahan’s barrel added complexity to this beer without being at all overbearing. In fact, I didn’t really detect any whiskey at all. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!
