From tap. Beautiful purple rose color, no head to speak of. Balanced flavors of red berries and honey, with the honey coming forward in the sweet finish.

From notes. Enjoyed at a small get together at Ed’s house after the mandatory Hunahpu’s Day nap. 500 mL bottle. The pour is a nice purple-ish red color with a small ring of what looks to be white head. Not sure why this would have any carb. The aroma is boozy blackberry juice. There is a hint of a light spice to it, but it’s mostly alcohol and a strong honey comes in late. It’s a little sweet, but doesn’t deter. The flavor is much of the same. It’s a little lighter on the blackberry, but the honey has a little more of a prominence here. There is a distinct graininess to this one on the flavor. I’m not feeling it. The mouth feel is light and watery with a slick and oily finish. The aftertaste leaves a little juiciness and then it vanishes quickly. This one just isn’t my jam.

500 ml. Pours a clear light mauve. Nose is light berry, honey and touches of cinnamon and orange zest. Taste follows the aroma. Medium bodied with a low-medium carbonation.

2015 BJCP Category: M3A Fruit & Spice Mead

AROMA: Sweet strong honey is prominent. Blackberry is fairly subtle background note. Perhaps a hint of ginger. No hop aroma. Flavor complement each other well. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Beautiful magenta hue; mostly clear body with CO2 present. Some white froth lingers on the top. 3/3

FLAVOR: Light dry fruitiness up front akin to flavored soda. A strong surge of honey flavor and sweetness emerges on the apex. Blackberry juice becomes strong and tart on the finish. I can’t pick out the Cascade hops nor any distinct spices (perhaps ginger or cinnamon?). Overall, flavors are enjoyable and pretty well balanced. Sweet without becoming cloying but also dry/tart in some aspects. 16/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body; medium-low carbonation (petillant). Some tannins and astringency in the aftertaste, albeit briefly (otherwise clean). No alcohol presence. Slightly refreshing. Smooth and comfortable. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A delectable palette due to an interesting recipe. I’d prefer more hops but this is more than satisfactory as it is. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 40/50

Bottle courtesy of goryskewych. Cheers, George! Pours a red-Amber with no head. Nose is berry, grass, light honey, and mild berry flesh. Flavor is similar- berry and berry flesh, mild bitterness, grass, and some earth. Light in body for a mead and very nice overall.

Sampled at the meadery this mead poured a reddish color with a small creamy pink-white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was cinnamon sugar with hints of berry jam and nutmeg. The flavor was tart berry, cinnamon, faint fruity hops and moderate astringency. Very long finish with lingering cinnamon. Moderately full bodied. Interesting.

Bottle thanks to peter. Nose is moderately fruity but lacks honey expression. Some grassy notes. Taste is very fruit forward with lemon forward notes too. Citrus notes are very prominent even over the blackberry. Really good but the blackberry seems to be a secondary thought.
