Caramel sugar flavors. Very very sweet but good. If you have a sweet tooth, you should have one glass of this barleywine; It’s like a dessert. iowaherkeye (2804) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - MAY 1, 2010
On tap at Lucky Baldwin’s Sierra Madre. Clear deep ruby with a well-retained beige head. Toasty malts up front with some sweet caramel and light chocolate notes. A tiger of raisins are also noted. Flavor adds a little tobacco, but is mainly toasty wig a little roasted malt--not too sweet by any means. The finish was semi-dry win alcohol moderate, bitterness peaked at a 3 and was earthy and slightly chalky. Light pillowy carbonation with a full smooth body. I’m happy that it isn’t too sweet, but it just isn’t that great. Update: 30 minutes later and I’m enjoying this much less. Bumped from a 3.4 to a 3.2. Baldwins,Smells like a fruit-roll up, highly sweet, not my kind of barley wine."too sweet"
Draft. Rich amber-brown beer with a light tan head. Fruity, light sherry aroma with malt. Fruit and sweet malt flavor with brown sugar and light spice. Medium bodied. Sweet malt lingers with light spice, caramel, light earth, and fruit. JohnnyJ (5569) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 23, 2009
On tap at the stone 13th fest. Cloudy copper pour, small off-white head. Cloying sweetness, caramel, brown sugar, orange, sweet bread, and a bit of spice. Very malt sided barleywine. Not one of my favorites.

Draught thanks to Mark at Craftsman. Pours with a foamy, light brown head and a hazy brown body. Aroma is boozy with a bit of wood, brown sugar and caramel, very little hops. Taste is dark fruits, brandy, brown sugar, caramel and a bit yeasty. Malt is very pronounced and fresh (tastes like a brewery on brew day smells). Smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Light carbonation. hapjydeuce (1002) - Carlsbad, California, USA - DEC 12, 2008
On tap at the 2008 Strong Ale Festival at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Copper color with beige head. Earthy, woody aroma with fruity and sweet malts and distinctive cherry. Cherry wood makes a nice addition to the flavor, but this one was a bit too sweet and cloying for my tastes. Finishes with spice and warming alcohol. On tap at the 2008 San Diego Strong Ale Fest, this brew is brownish amber and well balanced. I liked the play between the sweetness an bitterness. beerguy101 (5364) - Newark, California, USA - DEC 7, 2008
Tasted on tap at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 12/5/2008. This barleywine pours a medium amber color form the tap. Large sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet. A medium bodied barleywine. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. The cheery flavors show up about mid taste and last to the finish. Very smooth tasting. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
