Draft. Blackish beer with a light tan head. Toffee and chocolate aroma with rich malt. Toffee and chocolate flavor with light marshmallow. Medium-plus bodied. Toffee and rich malt lingers with chocolate.
Tasted on tap at Beer Revolution on 2/19/2012. This American Strong Ale pours a dark brown/black color from the tap. Small sized tan/beige foamy head. The aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, raisins and a touch of brown sugar. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity, a touch bready, some chocolate and some vanilla. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Very smooth. There is a nice mild sweetness throughout this beer, it just sort if hangs in the background. Hides the 9.5% alcohol well. Lots of flavors all nicely balanced. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - FEB 24, 2012
Draft at Beer Revolution. It pours very dark brown/black. The aroma is outstanding with lots of fresh chocolate and some toasted malt. Some sweeter notes of caramel and vanilla. The flavor is the same. Very complex with nice toasty notes without getting too burnt or acrid and strong notes of cocoa and coffee. Really great stout! Draft. Dark brown pour, with a tannish head. Dark malts, bourbon, some dark fruit, brown sugar, vanilla, wood, caramel, and chocolate. Mouth feel is "fairly" light when compared to the taste, but still full. A nice beer. kbutler1 (1381) - North Carolina, USA - MAY 31, 2011
Draft. Pours a dark black/brown color with a tan mocha head. The aroma is rich with notes of molasses, leather, booze, oak, and chocolate. Being a blend with barleywine I guess I expected a slight hoppiness in the nose but no, that is not there. Surprisingly, this isnít as flavorful as I thought it would be. Molasses, toasted caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon are all there but neither one or the other dominates. The end falls a little apart for me. Ends rather dry. Medium/heavy mouthfeel.

Sample. Rating #3. Dark pour with some real nice aromas going on. Light sweetness and some dark fruits, pretty easy to drink. Real good stuff. (1749) BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 27, 2011
On tap at the Provisions store. Pours with a deep brown pour and a tan head. Glass coating. Aromas are quite rich, cocoa, wood, chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow, molasses and slight smoke. Also a near egginess that reminds me of a souffle. Flavors are rich, light spice, alcohol pepperiness, chocolate, vanilla, molasses, rich toffee. Smooth, creamy and warming. Well done. I had this on tap at Bruery Provisions in Orange, CA
This dark brown/blackish pour has a nice complexity of flavors: roasty, dark chocolate, molasses.... yet it was very drinkable. This is a big flavorful beer with excellent balance.
