On tap at the Barley Bros Brew Fest, Meridian ID. Very dark brown and a brown milk chocolate head. Lots of chocolate in the aroma and not much hippiness. Flavor is similar, quite sweet not very bitter and full bodied. I’m thinking they were shooting for more attenuation and more IBUs. This is more like a hoppy sweet stout. Not bAd though

The beer taste really nice when you drink it normally. It is not favored when you slow down and drink it. $7 per 1/2 growler at NW Growlers in Sherwood.

Pours deep dark brown... good clarity.. okay splotchy dark brown lacing... The nose is decent but light for anything "imperial" for a black IPA.. pine hops and a good dusting of cocoa.... not as roasty as many of their bigger brethren... and really not as much hop in the aroma either. Flavor has more "black malt astringency" than expected... I would hope for light coffee or roasty flavors... hop bitterness is very nice... mild cocoa mid palate that is pulled out by a very slight malt sweetness... hop flavors are very piney and seem a bit one dimensional.. could use maybe some citrus varieties in there. Body is a shade light of medium... but that is fine... the carbonation is good.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, picked up at Beermongers PDX, 28/11/14. Light black with a decent tan swirl. Nose is charr, pine, dank hops, light roast, cocoa powder. Taste comprises ashen notes, sweet licks, pine needle, charr, bitter grapefruit, dank hop song. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok CDA, doesn’t drink to 10% but on the other hand holds little depth for said ABV!

Bottle share at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Theydon of Bois. Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is smooth and airy. Mild fine carbonation which start to nibble. Airy and creamy dark malts, trace of coffee. Spicy pine hops with a little marmalade. Hop spice keeps going through the smooth finish and lingers on. Very nice. Drinks below it’s abv.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. The aroma holds some toasted nuts, mild cocoa, light roast, cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with pretty strong bitter earth, charred wood, burnt pine. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with strong roast, more bitter burnt wood, some gritty earth, chalky cocoa. Pretty decent.

Bottle thanks to C-Dogg. It pours near black with a thick tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, sherbet, grapefruit, candy, brown sugar, cocoa, earth and wood. The taste is bitter, roasty, earthy, sherbet, minerals, earth, barnyard, cocoa, pepper, creamy and charred wood with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not half bad.

Bottle:   Lots of chocolate, fairly dry too.   Smooth, somewhat rich, low bitterness, but roasty.   None of that pasture which is nice.   Better than expected.   Has a touch of earthiness to it, soft soil.   Backside has a strong dry bakers chocolate like finish.   I liked that this one was smooth, fairly rich, and wasn’t out of balance.   Could stand to be a touch sweeter given how dry it was, but otherwise its tasty.

On tap at crooked fence barrel house. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is roast malts bitter hops and some ashtray. Taste is as the nose with lots of bitter grapefruit and dark malts. This was not good.

Dark and roasty, on tap at CF taproom. Black with thin beige head, elements of fresh ground coffee and chocolate, wood and burnt toast. Short finish, but high ABV makes this a sipper.

Bottle thanks to some kind soul. Pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head. A big roast and dank hoppy nose. The flavor was more toward the dark side with chocolates and roast, some cocoa, but robust fruity hops, lingering bitterness in the finish. Good.
