When the lights dim, the curtains pull back, and the Beledi starts, it is time for a Mystery Romp! This mocha colored ale, infused with chocolate and coffee, can best be described as a tasteful dance between a robust porter and a rich stout.

Mystery Romp is a recipe that was a 5 yr evolution. Not that she was ever not a good beer. But, like any fancy lady she just always needed a little more. This porter has a gorgeous color at all stages. When brewed the swirl of earthy brown color dancing within the foam is picture worthy. When properly poured this beer vibrantly bubbles and sings. And as planned in the glass she is dark and mysterious. The smell of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate make her irresistible. This porter is Wandas baby. Being a coffee and chocolate addict she probably went a little mad and over the top with this one. Surprisingly people besides her liked it, which makes us smile.

bottle @ Double Shoppe / Ocean Springs MS --- Aroma of earthy bitter chocolate malt. Clear black color, brown head that slowly drops to a cover, lace that slides back into the drink. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, and black coffee. All three are assertive and full-bodied. On the swallow, it runs a little fizzy, and somewhat sweeter. That is short lived, though, as mild bittering returns it to a more bitter version of the openers. A big, balanced, satisfying brew.

Mystery Romp has a medium, quickly-dying, beige head, tiny ascending bubbles, a dark-brown, nearly black, appearance, and almost no lacing left behind. The aroma is of dark-roasted malt, char, black coffee, bakers chocolate, and toast crust. Taste is of all that, with acidity and burnt bitterness closing out the sip. Mouthfeel is rather thin and oddly prickly. Mystery Romp finishes semi-dry. RJT

Pours a nearly black with a quickly dissipating espresso head. Caramel coffee and cream nose. Lacking in body. Taste approximates the nose, but the bitterness of coffee gets expressed.

Bottle as an extra, thanks! Pours opaque black with a medium brown creamy head that dissipates slowly with nice lacing. Aroma is solid roasty, coffee, chocolate, a bit of ashtray. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, somewhat acidic and odd, seems like coffee has gone stale here. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel.

If this had the mouthfeel it would be awesome. Still good but very quick head. Nice coffee chocolate flavor. Sweet kinda thin on the tongue. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours very dark brown/black with a dark khaki head. Aroma is heavy dark chocolate, hot coacoa, roasted malt. Flavor is lighter than aroma but follows suit. Medium-light body. Creamy texture. Very good, solid porter, chocolatey delight.
