Shadow of Truth is a black tripel, a big Belgian beer that is a simple twist on a traditional style. The result, however, is quite complex. Jet black, smooth, and dry.

Jet black. Not a very spicy beer but I can taste the wine flavors in it. Thick on the palate. Smells like wine, fruity. Also wood, oak smells.

Draft @ BCTC, Ommegang Brewery. August, 8, 2015. Dark brown in color, thin tan head. Aromas are light cocoa, light roast and toast, toffee, ash.

Flavor of cocoa, sweet and bitter cocoa, touches of roast, white chocolate hints. Medium body with a charred grain texture. Finish is shows some Belgian yeast. What the hell is a black Tripel anyhow??

Backlog. Draft taster at Spacebar. Deep brown with bare offwhite head. Raisins, dark fruit, grains, cloves, citrus. This was a bit of a mess. Not a fan.

No aroma. Ruby black, thin head. Somewhat tart raisin and prune. Finishes with twigs and grape seeds. Light body, moderate carbonation. Pretty solid example of a Belgiam Christmas beer.

Keg at the brewery, 10/23/14. Pours a dark reddish brown with a large creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of candi sugar, toffee, mild fruits. The taste is dark fruits, caramel, toffee, spice. Medium bodied, mild heat.

Travlr (26075) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - SEP 7, 2014
Draft at the source. Clear maroon color. Aroma of baking brownies. Taste is sweet and sticky licorice and caramel.

RussianDragon (877) - - JUN 16, 2014
On tap at Ledo. Pours a dark brown with light passing easily. Beige head fades quickly and leaves little lacing. Aroma is mild, bread, lightly toasted malt, yeast, and overall sweet. Flavor is mild and sweet, not similar to a Tripel. Malt, bread and slight spice complexity typical of homebrew.
