4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours like a champagne, nice and bubbly. Nose is of tart fruit, blackberry is well known. Light and crisp, with heavy tartness, and bursting with fresh blackberry flavors. I could easily drink this on a regular basis! Probably one of the best sours I’ve ever had!
Backlog, Bottle in '15, pours a ruby red shade with light white/pink head. Nose is cranberry, blackberry, light cheese, herbs, and other ultra tart funks. Flavor was most of the same with some berries, lactic funk, brett, oak, and currants. Really dusty and sour after couple years of aging. Dfonorow (2274) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 24, 2016
Bottle. Pour is red/orange/purple with a small white head that fades quickly into a ring. Aroma of blackberry jam, sour mash, and oak. Flavor is similar but a bit more subdued. Finish is sour blackberry juice. JBPortland (1564) - Hampton Roads, Virginia, USA - OCT 1, 2015
750ml bottle pours dark violet red with a finger of pink head. Nose is super funky, earthy cow shit, musty berry, basement. Taste is medium sourness, bretty fruit, mashed earthy blackberry funk, horse barn, damp oak. Finishes crisp, dark berries, some vinous funk, wet wood, earthy. Holding up very well! bytemesis (9231) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - JUN 24, 2015
2012 bottle thanks to bull11zeye. Pours clear rose, turning cloudy as we get lower in the bottle, small beige head, good lacing. Aroma is funky, barnyard, blackberries, oak. Flavor is light sweet, very light tart, light funk. Quite fruity and oaky. An amazing amount of blackberry given the bottling date. This is good. ineedbeer (2255) - Oakland, California, USA - FEB 8, 2015
Poured from a 750 ml bottle.
Aroma is straight cheese and feet with a faint fruit note.
Pours a fairly clear, purplish red with a slightly pink head.
Flavor is better than the aroma with a moderately strong tartness. Some medium light berry character. Hints of tropical fruit and cheese.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a horrible aroma but the flavor is not as bad. The fruit has definitely dropped out of the beer.

"A far nicer beer than my first foray to crooked Stave, though still not among the elite for a style I love. They did a great job integrating the fruit in this one, and the balance between jammy blackberry and funky lemony tart is the beers strenth." SHIG (4964) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - MAY 29, 2014
Sample at Culmination Fest: Poured a purple red with a white head. Aroma was funky berry with wood tones. Taste was tongue tartness of blackberries also some oaky wood. brystmar (1314) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 8, 2014
Traces of tan head atop the dark body. Blackberries dominate the aroma and taste, imparting their delicate flavors which somehow turn more sour and intense as I keep drinking. Sourness and fruitiness intensify, turning into a magical creation. Beaver (1846) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 8, 2013
750 ml bottle, batch March 2012, bottle 372 / 857. Pours hazy purplish amber with a fizzy off white head that quickly goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.bottleforager (3208) - Gray, Maine, USA - SEP 8, 2013
The aroma is sweet berries and funky acidic (mild butyric) brett.
The flavor is lots of tart and sour berry with a little sweetness and some wood notes. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low prickly carbonation.
Overall, a nice sour beer with lots of sour tart berry.

Pours a purple rose color with a finger of pinkish foam. The nose is unripe blackberry fruit, basement funk and a bit of tropical brett undertones. The palate follows with a nice balance between tart fruit and musty funk... some barrel notes of toasted vanilla and blackberry sweetness rounds out the mid palate with puckering sourness drying out the finish. Lots of basement funk lingers...
